Excellent post buddy. I would like to introduce that India has to be in favor of Tamil people as its not only about Tamil people living in India but also for vote bank.

Second, is the decision made by Srilankan govt. during 1971 war to allow Pakistan to use it against India. Look at India and China. 1962 war has become elephant in the room as long as both countries are concerned. So it was expected of India to be against Sri lanka, coz if another war occurred between India and Pakistan and Sri Lanka favored Pakistan, things would have become more critical for India.

Failure of foreign policies by India vis-a vis China led to damaged relations and Sri Lanka vis-a-vis India led to India's hand in civil war leading to deaths of hundreds of thousands.

There is considerable investment of India in Srilanka, The future investments of India and Japan are bigger than China. Now that LTTE is gone and India played a major role in it and helped to strengthen democracy of Srilanka. Chinese are worried about Indian influence and are sending Defense minister.
India is a major player and it was India's assurance that defeated the violence, Arms you can get from any country, the role India played is the crucial one.
The arrest of Chinese stooge Fonseka is a big blow for Chinese designs. And now Chinese are trying to do everything to get a foot hold and make Srilanka an anti China base which will never succeed. The aid they are giving to the military is nothing but making the military a major player in Srilankan politics.

Umm...could you please let us know what this "considerable investment" is? How is it that Sri Lanka's giant neighbour India is a smaller investor in the island than Malaysia? How is it that China - which is thousands of miles away from Sri Lanka has turned out to be such a huge source of investment and loans? Unfortunately, very little of any "Indian projects" have materialized. In contrast, everything the Chinese promise, you can be rest assured it will happen. Maybe this is a cultural difference....but unfortunately India gets a reputation for being slow, lethargic etc.

India still refuses to have a full defence relationship with Sri Lanka because of Tamil Nadu, even after the end of the war.

Is it possible, just possible that the Indian government has bungled something here?

Is it really fair to blame China's if it invests where India does not want to, or refuses to invest?

If India doesn't want to have a full defence relationship with Sri Lanka, why shouldn't China?

IMO Fonseka was never a Chinese stooge - he was - and this is my personal opinion - a US/Western puppet. Others may have different views.

Sri Lanka did not overtly support Pakistan. Sri Lanka took a neutral stance in accordance with its non aligned policies. India could have refueled its planes in Sri Lanka if it wanted to. India chose not to (and it didn't need to). Pakistan chose to do so.

ONGC is investing is oil refinary which is close to 20000 Crores of Indian rupees and India has initiated lot of development projects in Tamil dominated areas.
What is the need of defense agreement between Srilanka and India. India and Srilanka are friendly neighbors. We are not blaming Chinese Investments in Srilanka which are benefit both srilanka and China. We are showing concern about the Chinese designs to make Srilanka and anti India base.
The recent desperate moves by Pakistan and China and the on going visit of Chinese defense minister did not go well with India.
If Fonseka is a US or western puppet why would he be tried by US and west for war crimes. It was in the Chinese interest to dethrone a democratically elected govt. and support dictators.

It will push India to strengthen its ties with Japan, South Korea, Vietnam etc. not to forget more cooperation between Indian and US navy.

I think China did something good for us coz our ministers need such incidents to wake up and work towards more cooperation towards other nations.

If China get more cooperation with Srilanka and India gets more closer to SCS and few ASEAN countries, I will say its the best thing China did above the economic ties.
