Special Olympics | Pakistan cyclist wins one more gold

An impressive performance exhibited by the Pakistani Cyclists helped accumulate three more medals including a gold in the 12th Special Olympics World Summer Games on Sunday.
In all during two-days events that were held at Chong Ming Island off Shanghai, Pakistan collected six medals. Today Iqra Batool was extremely impressive when she earned gold in 500 metres cycle race, her time was 1.06 minutes. Tayyaba Fatima won bronze in the same competition with1.14 minutes timing. In Boys Cycling events, Pakistan’s Omair Sarwar bagged silver in 1km race. His time was 2.22 minutes. This was his second silver, yesterday he won first silver in 500m race.
In the main rounds of badminton, Pakistan’s Zubi and Javed were placed 4th in the mixed doubles event whereas in the girls singles Shela Naz beat Jamaican girl in three sets 21-13, 18-21 and 21-19,
In Men’s Singles events first round, Imran Ahmed lost to Russian player in 3 sets. The score was 21-13, 18-21 and 21-19, and Waqas Javed lost to Chinese player in the same event.
In Basketball event, Pakistani girls lost to India (5-10) in a largely-attended match at Lowan Basketball Stadium. At half time both teams were locked 2 all. In the second half, Pakistani girls took initial lead to 5-2 but then India bounced back and won the match scoring field goals in regular succession.
In the men’s basketball event, Pakistan proved too good for Sweden winning the match by 30-16. The preliminary rounds of tennis and athletics were completed for Pakistani athletes and their main rounds will commence today (Monday). However, most of the evening scheduled events were halted due to rain which started pouring in the afternoon. The Met office forecast says a heavy cyclone on South China Sea is approaching Shanghai some time today and the outdoor activities may be suspended for some time.
