South Carolina killing: After techie, another Indian American Harnish Patel shot dead

While India was still recovering from the Kansas shooting horror, another incident of a possible racial killing has left the American Indians in a state of shock and paranoia. The cries of “get out of my country” must still be fresh in the Srinivas’ wife mind when another incident of an American Indian being shot dead outside his South Carolina house was reported. Harnish Patel was shot dead in Lancaster merely ten minutes after he closed his house at 11:24 pm. For racists, Patel was just an Indian living in the America, for others, Patel was a “great family man” and was a “kind person who treated his customers as friends and helped law enforcement.” Patel’s neighbours even made an impromptu shrine for the man and left balloons and flowers in his memory.

Although the police has said that there is no reason for them to believe that this was a racially motivated death, the government will have a hard time claiming that this is an isolated case. It cannot be ignored that it has merely been 2 days since US President Donald Trump condemned the racially motivated murder of Indian techie, Srinivas who was shot dead by a US Navy veteran in a club and this act of violence was probably an act signifying open defiance to US President’s tolerance comments at his first Presidential speech.
