Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said South Asian nations should work to eliminate the curse of hunger, poverty and illiteracy and for the well-being of the people in the region.

She said this while newly-appointed Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Ahmed Siddiqui paid a courtesy call on her at her official Ganabhaban residence here.

After the meeting, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the newsmen.

The prime minister said the cardinal principle of Bangladesh's foreign policy, enunciated by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is "Friendship to all, malice to none".

During the meeting, High Commissioner Imran Ahmed Siddiqui said Pakistan is keen to promote relations to Bangladesh.

The high commissioner presented an original copy of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's message.

He also presented a photo album, photo of the painting and video footage of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's visit to Pakistan as Bangladesh's prime minister to attend the OIC (Organisation of Islamic Countries) summit in 1974.

Sheikh Hasina thanked the Pakistan high commissioner for handing over the historic souvenir related to the memories of Bangabandhu.

The prime minister also appreciated the publication of a calligraphy book in Bangla by Pakistan on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh's independence.

Ambassador-at-Large Mohammad Ziauddin and PM's Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus were present.

Mujib got over 1971 but she never has. The malice to none is a signal to the country that surrounds bangladesh on all three sides.
Many say he was a reluctant participant in the entire process and immediately wanted to reconcile. But then this lady is India’s poodle and ipso facto making entire Bangladesh one too.

.
I agree with her that South Asian nations must solve those issues but how are they going to do that by retaining obsolete, unscientific, anti-human, anti-democratic and anti-progress socio-economic and political systems ?

Zara ahista chaley...

Pakistan HC is doing the right thing, focusing on Abba-ji.

That is her achille's heel and soft spot.

And then publishing a book on Bangla is a master stroke. Well done.

Focus on the end-goal and the end-game. She won't be there forever....

Pakistan has to beat India at this mind-game...

One day if Pakistan can recognize her favorite things like February 21st, offer an apology for 1952 etc., she (or India) won't have any alibi's left for having animosity with Pakistan...hoping for the best with PM Imran Khan saab.
She gets votes on the hatred she spreads

I would like to disagree.

Huge difference in mindset of Bangladeshis of 1970's and today.

People are more literate nowadays, much more educated and informed.

Only people that vote for her are the brainwashed and the Hindus.

She is more of an illegitimate dictator. Last election was a sham pretty much.

Mujeeb was never in favour of independent Bangladesh, but a lose confederation, in which Pakistan takes responsibility of defence and foreign affairs, and East Pakistan takes care of everything else.
In March 1971 General Yehya bundled up Bhutto and flew him to Dhaka for a meeting with Mujeeb.
in that meeting Bhutto lured Mujeeb to fly back with him to West Pakistan and have the rest of negotiations over there. Mujeeb fell for the trap. Upon arrival in West Pakistan, Mujeeb was arrested and shipped to Mianwali jail. He remained there , until a month after Bangladeshi freedom, totally unaware of whatever happened in East Pakistan.
The news of creation of Bangladesh as a free country was personally delivered to Mujeeb in prison by ZA Bhutto.

She should work on being less corrupt and crafty as Al Jazeera has exposed her to be.

We west pakistanis acted like retards and were rightly defeated in a completely unnecessary civil war. We gave india a victory on a silver platter.

Brother. When are you guys going to ditch the 3 million dead and 200000 raped narrative?

Once that is done. Pakistan can fully apologize for our many wrongs and we can normalize relations. 2 states. 1 nation.

I am sure there were massive casualties and rape going on, on all sides. But unless proven, no one should comment on numbers.

Muktis also did their share of misdeeds during the war. "Khoon ka Badla khoon" is a concept in our blood. Asking who did more is pointless after fifty years. War is war - horrible in all respects.

As expected - Indians and India-shills in Bangladesh (regrettably some Hindus, some of who are in this very board too as false flaggers) are more vocal about this than most Bangladeshis themselves. OTOH there are Bangladeshi Hindus who are very patriotic and see things in balanced manner and are NOT pro-India.

I think most Bangladeshis have moved on except Indians, Hasina and AL, who made it their Faida Uthana cause célèbre.

Do you know what happened after December 1971? Or you were never taught that part of your history?

There was massive anti-Pakistan propaganda sponsored by Indian govt. as expected. But the army folks who fought in the war have compiled sector by sector histories replete with detail. In the final analysis, despite the schemes of Bhutto and the rantings/ravings of Niazi ("Mai is haramzad kaum ki nasal badal dunga"), this was an unwinnable war of attrition for Pakistan, from logistics viewpoint alone.

The launching of Operation searchlight in Dhaka in 25th March '71 was a very, very bad decision. Tanks and Army troops were deployed and they mowed down civilians with abandon, even ignorant rickshaw pullers trying to make a living in the curfew. The optics were really bad and India gained from this. The war culminated in December 1971 with the Indian Army stripping Bangladesh of any war booty and loot they could unbolt from the infra. There are concrete footage of Indian Army carting away even water faucets, not to mention valuable industrial machinery and of course arms.

The Indian influence did not subside until General Ziaur-Rahman appeared on the political scene sometime after the assassination of the Sheikh Mujib family. He established SAARC and made amends with Pakistan by bringing foreign policy to an even keel and not so dependent on Indian whims.

After Hasina came back, she did make 1971 her 'platform' but soft-pedaled making it all about her dynasty, fearing she'd get overthrown in a coup again. She also played down her allegiance to India publicly - however we all know how anti-Pakistani she still is, which I'd say is personal to some level.

For those who lost loved ones in 1971, memories of that time are still strong (as in Pakistan), however I'd dare say that majority of people in Bangladesh see 1971 as a major folly of Pakistan military (and leadership) and a gain for India, both militarily and commercially.

To this day, Indians are gaining faida from Bangladesh at the rate of about $60 Billion yearly, despite treating our nation and our interests like $hit.

Ultimately, Bangladesh and Pakistan are natural allies due to mutual need, aligned geopolitically as a counterpoint against India. This is not just a military viewpoint, it is also a strategic and financial one. Add the China equation, and all cries calling for India-alignment in Bangladesh become pointless.

The sooner most intelligent people in Pakistan and Bangladesh realize it (and work toward normalize relations between both nations), the better it is.

I wasn't on about any of that.
After the withdrawal of Pakistan army , the Indian army was keeping peace in Dhaka and the rest of Bangladesh, and they were not interested. Countless "Rojakaar" , Bihari and other non Bengali were killed and raped by rampant Mukti Bahini . All that death toll was far higher than what was during the 9 month war .
Likewise Bangladesh went into chaos and mismanagement, resulting in famine which kind 2 million Bangladeshi.
All those deaths and atrocities were put into the account of Pakistan army ti hide incapacity of new Mujeeb government and to portray Mukti Bahini as angels.
That's how your 2 million killed and 20 million raped figures work.

Well I don't have any idea on how many people got killed due to famine and mismanagement and if the Bangladesh govt. was claiming that they died in the war by Pakistani Army.

If you have evidence, then let's see it.

Likewise you Bangladeshi youth are unaware of Bhola cyclone and the millions of casualties due to that.
Those casualties were also thrown in Pakistani army account, along with pictures of heaps of dead bodies, which were washed ashore by receding water, and were flooding casualties.
