What's new

South Asia Has a New Economic Leader. Will the World Take Note?

Congratulations to BD ! And this is also a SLAP in the face of the our corrupt, incompetent and dishonest Pakistan establishment who have destroyed this country. BD a country which was poor and got independence in 1971, has done so much for its people because this country CARES for its people. Unlike the corrupt, A-holes SOBs sitting in Pakistan and its agencies.

Agree...one more discrete factor to Pak is BD's army doesn't poke it's nose everywhere and let political system run independently...... But our Army will never learn..they consider the whole country is at their disposal and they are free to keep doing blunders, plunders and surrenders....

Great post. AKP is like right of centre party with a nod to religion like Christian Democrats in Europe and Republicans in USA.
But I worship secularism, West, Kemalist Turkey and athiest China.
The AKP twin brother would be United Russia both parties are "center-right" parties but are dominated by strongman like Erdogan and Putin appeal mainly to older more "conservative voters" and supposedly "anti-western" both have ruled their respective countries since the early aughts, Erdogan came in Power back in 2002, Putin back in 1999, both had to deal with demoralized economy and huge political crisis, Russia had complete financial breakdown and IMF bailout in 1998 Turkey had financial breakdown and IMF bailout in 2000-2001 both had long running insurgencies still somewhat Russia had Chechen insurgency and Turkey had Kurdish insurgency under both leaders stability came and their geopolitical strength increased as US power projection has gone through stagnation since the mid aughts and debacles in Iraq and Afghanistan but like all things come to an end Russia and Turkey are in line for further "liberalization" their youth is much less conservative than a generation ago Russian Youth have only known Putin Turkish Youth Erdogan both Turkey and Russia face "De Gaulle" trap liberal youth conservative govt very toxic mess ahead but is salvageable if Erdogan and Putin understand compromise Putin is phasing out Erdogan is not very smart too much hot head and may lead to further politcial instabilty in Turkey and bad geo-political gambles Putin much more careful thats their main difference

"Russia’s situation was similar to Turkey. While many parts of the world were enjoying a “Roaring 90s’”, Turkey and Russia experienced a “Turbulent 90s.’” Russia’s Post-Soviet liberal political order had failed to satisfy the Russian public and keep Russia stable. The turbulence of the 90s’ was more acute in Russia. Homelessness and unemployment were high. The Russians experienced a drastic drop in standards of living following the collapse of the USSR. Russia became embroiled in a series of bloody conflicts in the Northern Caucasus. The Russians were naturally attracted to the notion of a powerful ruler. However, manly or muscular “powerful” Russian ruler did not start with Putin, but rather the “liberal” Boris Yeltsin, who attempted to create a powerful Russian presidency following the ratification of the Constitution of the Russian Federation in 1993.

The “strong” leadership styles of Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin are often compared by many observers and political pundits. Both leaders have become increasingly authoritarian in their approaches to governance. Both figures have embraced nationalist machismo as their styles. Conservation of the way of life and anti-western rhetoric are commonly employed by both Erdogan and Putin. Erdogan’s Islamic nationalism is popular among many conservative Muslims outside of Turkey, While Putin’s macho appearance, Russian patriotism and embrace of Orthodox Christian conservatism is alluring to some conservative and right-wing people in Western Europe and North America, despite the pugnacious relationship between Russia and the West. Erdogan is considered a “modern-day Sultan.” Putin is interchangeably considered a Soviet or Tsarist nostalgist, depending on whether Putin’s past association with the KGB, the military buildup in Russia under his leadership, or his embrace of the Russian Orthodox Church and promotion of social conservatism are emphasized

Like I said in "hybrid regime:" symbolism matters
Then you are a cuck for westerners. Secularism causes degeneracy. Liberals want to hold gay pride parades in Pakistan make it degenerate just like the west and I can say US is degenerate cause I live here. I don't understand how anyone can be Muslim and secular. You can't cherry pick your religion.
Whoa whoa hold your horses you think Pakistan with its underdevelopment and corrupt "Anglo" inspired "Bureaucracy" will become liberal or secular doubt it besides when "right wingers" and so called "Islamists" complain about degeneracy yet partake in it or dont do anything about it
Hasan Piker is Cenk Uygur's nephew btw, if you follow American Progressive media outlets.
I am not "Progressive" but I like Hasan Piker as he breaks MSM bs about Turkey and Turkish politics

Both Erdogan are Kavkaz hotheads, Erdogan family is originally Georgian from the Black Sea region I would not be suprised his roots are from Adjara a border region btw Adjara was part of the Ottoman Empire until the Russians beat the Turks in 1878 gaining Adjara and Batumi and Joesph Stalin aka Uncle Joe is from Georgia too tho he was part Ossetian on his father side

Which still leaves you basically saying Turkey is a disease. Just be aware secularism is NOT being rolled back. Indeed Erdogan is on record saying secularism is best.

And that still leaves our Iron Brother China as a athiest worse than a disease.

@Yankee-stani can you give some quotes by Erdo on seularism please.

Don't you just love the hypocrisy in this forum ? I just enjoy the entertainment provided.. US flags, Brit flags, Dutch flags, Aussie, German even Turks and Caicos :yahoo:

Us Banagladeshis get lectured on how Bangladesh is "moving away from Islamic roots" by Western flags. Quite entertaining to watch.

These "Westerners" should come back and Make Bangladesh Islamic Again.

I reckon Bangladesh is doing just fine

According most of them it's Pakistan that have dire need of them, Ironically nobody wants to move back :coffee:

Bangladesh has the potential to become a Netherlands or Singapore of South Asia. Chinese must seize the opportunity to deepen our ties with Bangladesh in every way and even guarantee its security, otherwise aggressors could pressure Bangladesh and limit its prosperity.

Chinese have much to offer Bangladesh ranging from construction, Ielectronics and heavy industry, to gaming, TV and movies. One day I hope Bangladeshis will be playing Genshin Impact on their Huawei mobile as they ride a CRRC train car on the Dhaka metro to their high paying IT job working for Alibaba.

Pakistan can economically prosper only three things has to be done. Dismantle the nuclear weapons of Pakistan, accept Kashmir as Indian territory and make peace with India.

Bangladesh was never Islamic to begin with, actually we are more religious now than we ever were....

The Bengali culture is innately agnostic and many of our celebrated festivals are outright against what Muslims from elsewhere would consider the norms of Islam.

As time passes our society is again drifting towards agnosticism but there is now a small but strong group of religious hardliners.

Take note however, that our hardliners are Barbie dolls when compared to hardliners from elsewhere, as in they don't blow up or slaughter people left and right.

Secularism prevails in Bangladesh because of the bengali culture, in India only the upper class are actually secular, as is being exposed now, under Congress, they merely stepped on everyone's throat who said otherwise, so we never heard the horror stories about religious disharmony in India back then.

I will get flack for saying this but I believe secularism is the right state choice for Bangladesh, when Sheikh Mujeeb instated it in 70s everyone got along under the military leaders changed it decades later, until Hasina enforced it again in 2009.

That gap in between, is where the hardliners birthed a whole new generation whose thought processes belong to the 14 century.

But over time, we are dealing with them, Bangladesh is on the right path, we have tackled the little bits and pieces of violent extremism.

Now onto reform and relegating Madrasas to religious teachings only.

You're right, back when I was a kid in Chittagong, I didn't know what a hijab was, and only found about it in Canada. Burkas were seen among some (mostly rural people) though rarely, but Hijab was nowhere found. Now it is fairly common among the urban middle class and beyond. Religious orthodoxy has gone up in Bangladesh, like most of the Islamic world (dismantling of pan-Arabism in the Arab world, post General Zia Pakistan, Erdogan-led Turkey etc). Now, strong displays of religiosity is 'cool' for the middle class, and no longer confined to sections of the lower and upper classes. Hijabs are far more common among the urban middle class by far than in the less economically sound rural areas. Atheism has also gone up among sections of the society, as other sections have double down on religion. I don't think these developments are negative or positive, and as long as the state roots out fanaticism from both factions, and maintains a secular attitude towards governance we are on the right track. We must catch up to the developed world, before we can bark about our ideological stances on anything. Thankfully, Bangladesh has learned that, but it seems a lot of our neighbours have not fully embraced it.
