South Asia was one of the main powers of the world during ancient and medieval
period. South Asia was a major power during ancient period under the rule
of the Maurya Empire, Gupta Empire and Kushan Empire.
During the medieval period parts of South Asia was a major power under the
rule of the Rashtrakuta Empire, Chola Empire, Vijayanagar Empire, Mughal Empire
and Maratha Empire.
But can South Asia again become one of the main powers of the world in terms
of economy and military strength? Today South Asia is divided into several countries like
India, Pakistan etc. So does South Asia or any South Asian country have the capabilities
to become a major power in the future like in the past?

yeah like me....many indians join this forum with a feeling of india-pakistan bhai bhai...bt soon after a few months....sab line pe aa jaate hai

hahahahaha....... koi nahi ....koi nahi ..... no one born biased ...... :enjoy:

South Asia has never really been a power base and never will be, Kushans were outsiders just like the Mughals.

Other empires you mentioned were short lived and only exerted their influence in South Asia and hardly any further.

South Asia has always been Powered by outsiders be it civilisations, culture to a point where South Asia is unrecognisable.

Lol thats a good joke.
The Maurya Empire ruled the major part of South Asia and was a major power.
The Mauryan kings even defeated the Greeks of the Seleucid Empire who ruled
whole Persia and Central Asia.
The Gupta Empire was a cultural and economic power. Some of the greatest mathematicians
and scholars of the ancient world lived during the Gupta and Harsha period (4th-7th century).
The Rashtrakuta Empire was described by the Arab scholars as one of the 4 great
Empires of the world in the 9th century. And it was the Rashtrakuta Empire and the
Pratihara Dynasty which defeated the Arab invaders of the Caliphate and protected
whole India in the 9th century. In the 9th century whole Persia, Central Asia and parts
of southern Europe was under Arab rule.
The Maratha Empire was a major military power as the Maratha rulers defeated
the Mughals and the Portuguese.

Kushans outsiders, Rajputs outsiders,Mughals outsiders.

Marhattas destroyed by the durranis, very short lived dream.

All the others hardly had any influence on South Asia itself let alone any further.

Future of South Asia is like always at the mercy of outsiders.

I don't want to get in to a debate about science and this and that, biggest thing in a power base is military power and South Asia has hardly worthwhile military power, history is evidence of that.

India was created in 1947.

Maratha is some Hindu empire that raised from the region (now in India) if anything, Pakistanis celebrate the defeat of Marathas, and we are glad they got defeated and humiliated by the durrani empire, (which established itself in the region, now Pakistan)

The Rajputs were not outsiders.
The Rashtrakuta Empire was a major power as they ruled the major part of South Asia
for 200 years.
The Maratha Empire was not destroyed by the Durranis as the Marathas recovered
after the battle of panipat and reconquered the major part of northern India.
The Durranis on the other hand were destroyed by the Sikhs.

I don't think you even bothered to read the OP. He said SOUTH ASIA, not India. Sure, Republic of India and Islamic Republic of Pakistan were created in 1947, what about it?

But I think @ghilzai has a point. Too many of our South Asian military powerhouses either had foreign origins or were always fighting amongst subcontinental rivals alone. Notable Indian kingdoms who invaded foreign lands are Mauryans(for a short while) and the Cholas

the origin of rajput traces back to central asia

I think NANDA EMPIRE(345bc-321bc) and Vijayanagar(1350-1650) Empire must be included in that list.
