Modern German subs has a layer of rubber underneath their diesel engines to cut off the vibrations and noise.

Every submarines have some kinds of technologies to reduce noise and German submarines are SSK so produces less noise. Nuclear powered submarines generally produces more noise but there are ways to reduce.

I will keep updating about new developments and technologies developed by DRDO in this thread.....

Inauguration of the Swaran Jayanti Bhawan at Solid State Physics Laboratory (SSPL), Delhi

SSPL, Delhi, entered the fiftieth year of its inception in 2011. Dr VK Saraswat, SA to RM, DG DRDO, and Secretary, Defence R&D, visited the lab and inaugurated the ‘Swaran Jayanti Bhawan’ on 07 April 2011. SA to RM addressed scientists and technical officers of the lab and acknowledged the significant contributions made by SSPL to the Defence R&D in the country. He emphasised that SSPL, being the backbone of R&D in solid state materials and devices, not only required to augment R&D efforts on its major programmes like FPAs, MMICs, GaN high power devices, and high power solid state laser diodes, but is also required to play central role in the research and development of strategically important thermal imagers and image intensifiers that are the crucial requirements of the Forces to operate under night-blind conditions.

Naval:

1.Successful technical trials of the Advanced Torpedo Defence System (ATDS) – Mareech.

2.Successful demonstration of Sea Bed Array Sonar for detection of submarine in littoral water. These are off-board sonars, deployed on the seabed, meant for continuous monitoring of strategic locations. Sea trials were carried out during March - April 2009. All the objectives of the project have been achieved. The system was proved against submarine target!

1. Induction of Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), Multimode Grenade, Carrier Command Post Tracked (CCPT) Vehicle,

2. Multi mode Grenade, DRDO has developed a general purpose antipersonnel grenade, named Shivalik, for use in the hand mode and for launching from the rifle by using normal ball ammunition. The bullet trap technology used in the grenade eliminates the need of the special ballistite or gas cartridge for launching grenade from the rifle.

3. UBGL Army has also approved bulk production of the add-on 40 mm under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) .The UBGL, which can be mounted on the INSAS as well as AK-47 rifles, was developed keeping in view the concept area-target capability. Capable of night-firing, it fills the gap between the maximum range achieved by a hand grenade and the minimum range of a mortar while giving better accuracy than both.

Arjun:

1.Mobile Camouflage System (MCS) :
As part of the project ‘Development of Defensive Aids System’, the MCS has been developed, integrated in MBT Arjun and conducted the performance Evaluation Trial.

how do we compare sonars- is there a difference in range etc..... How do we know how good the sonar developed by the drdo is?????
Also i think we should have a thread on which submarines is considered the quietest - i heard its the kilo ( its called the black hole because its so quiet)

There are no way to compare sonars unless active, passive, towed, hull mounted etc.

One thing about DRDO sonars I can say for Kilo upgradation IN went for Indian sonars instead of Russian sonars. The new Krivak frigates, P-17 all have Indian sonars. This is one major success area of DRDO.

Also i think we should have a thread on which submarines is considered the quietest - i heard its the kilo ( its called the black hole because its so quiet)

You are right. But that was in late 90s to early 2000s. Now more modern submarines detection technologies have come but in Asian scenario that are still one of the best.
