Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki has said that finding lasting solutions to the Rohingya crisis will be conducive to the pursuit of "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" (FOIP), a concept of peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

"Japan will further cooperate with the relevant agencies for better living conditions of Rohingya and host communities both in Cox's Bazar and Bhasan Char, while making effort for early repatriation to Myanmar," he said in a statement today following a visit to the Rohingya camps in Bhashan Char on March 30-31.

So far, some 25,000 Rohingyas were relocated to Bhashan Char, where the government has established a housing facility and is working for livelihood options.

The delegation that also included Yuho Hayakawa, chief representative of JICA Bangladesh, visited the hospitals, food distribution point, livelihood project, embankment, education centre, and the community centres for women and children.

They also had discussions with Assistant Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Shamsuddoza Nayan and Project Director of Ashrayam-3 project, Rashed Sattan.

This mission aimed to overview the ongoing activities under Japan's funding, as well as explore possible bilateral assistance by JICA in the future.

Ambassador Ito appreciated the dedicated work of the UN agencies, NGOs, Bangladesh Navy and the government for delivering services to the refugees despite financial and resource constraints.

"It was truly eye opening to see the humanitarian responses and efforts of UNHCR, WFP and NGOs such as Brac, Friendship, GK, Islamic Relief, BDRCS, Qatar Charity, and Codec," he said.

He said the government of Bangladesh established solid facilities and infrastructure and after talking to the Rohingyas there he recognized that they moved from Cox's Bazar to Bhasan Char in pursuit of better life, more livelihood opportunities and better security.

Nevertheless, despite the initial $2 million funding of Japan and the following support by the other donors, there seemed to be considerable gaps in services and additional funding requirements for further humanitarian responses.

"I hope the operations on the island will expand to provide more support to the refugee population, and Japan will continue supporting the UNs and NGOs," said Ambassador Ito.

I fully agree with what Ambassador Ito said about the importance of QUAD.. China is already in MM supporting its Junta govt.

China wants another foothold in the BoB through BD. China has no sympathy for the Rohongya issue but keeps on funding lame projects in BD. With this loan money with high rate of interest, China will shortly intimidate BD into submission.

Historically, the Chinese are not a group of benevolent people. This is why it never extended money or help to the rehabilitation of the Rohingya people. Rohingya were expelled at the suggestions of China.

However, blind people seem not to see what is waiting ahead in the next couple of years.

While Chinese are not benevolent I doubt Myanmar regime expelled Rohingyas in collusion with China

The Rohingya expulsion could have in cohort with both China and India. Like BD, MM is also in a position to play diplomacy both with China and India.

But, please note that the present MM Junta is directly supported by China forcing India also to support it. And China wins politically if BD is in her pocket as well.

Not necessarily “help" per se, The Military leaders took the risk of abandoning the western investments in favour of China's. The western world's scrutinization of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi provoked the Leader's confident to stage the coup. After all China has been dealing trade and commerce with the Juntas since way back in the 90s when the country was basically a pariah state.

You are right - collusion was with Modi and Hindutvabadis in India. We all know it.

India and China have better things to do than encouraging 3rd rate regime to expel 4th rate group. Now MM is in a position to playoff India and China against the West and each other to secure their support

Man, calling a persecuted ethno-religious group 4th rate, shows how much uncivilized you folks are...

it is not my view of it. It is how the world treated the whole issue. the truth is cold.

BD is a friendly nation of China , he should be in no ones pocket.

Personally I feel more relaxed to get along with Bangladeshis cause we get nothing wronged with them in the history.

Yes, MM has always been playing India against China and vice versa. But, this Junta coup was supported by China. China needs MM in the BoB more than it needs BD. China has border with MM and has no border with BD.

Why China has to care about 3rd rate or 1st rate regime when the issue is geopolitics of this region? China needs MM because it has border. And this is exactly the reason why QUAD is countering China by wooing BD.

This is all fine and true. But the slaughter of Rohingyas has nothing to do with the geopolitics even though the international response to it is dictated by geopolitics

For starters China opposed the creation of Bangladesh. you were already on the wrong side of history to begin with
