Soaring numbers of British military want to quit the Armed Forces, survey reveals

Don't the British have other priorities like NHS or something like that ? :bounce:
Nobody will even remark that the armed forces will be cut again. (Or am i wrong ? @waz any news on the next SDSR ? I just heard that they plan to increase the funds to equipment, but nothing else. :undecided: )
Some armies in Europe are being cut to a nowhere level and that is depressing/demoralizing.

They will ring fence the NHS, education (pre-university) and you're right about the funds to equipment. I would like to see the army return to 1960's levels of troop strength i.e. 315,000 regular and 120,000 reserve. That's about right for a first world country with a population of 64 million.
No matter how strong the technological edge, troops numbers remain crucial for the execution of many objectives.

You can reduce 'em,but not destroy 'em.

I am not entirely convinced that UK could afford an army of over 300,000 unless it did something extreme like spend 4-5% GDP on defence.

What it can and should be doing is having a much, much powerful Royal Navy - like 3 catapult carriers, 12 Type-45 destroyers and 12 Astute SSNs. A Royal Navy of this size will be more than a match for the Russian one.

Also the UK should make sure that it develops the latest and best technology to try to keep up with the US.
