What's new

SKMT Now in Peshawar!!

Is there any other cancer hospital in Pakistan? What about Agha-Khan, do they have cancer treatment cell?

.
The total treatment of Cancer in SKM takes only 35,000 rupees for full treatment compared to other Cancer hospitals in country abroad that costs 200,000 rupees or more in dollars.

And where did you pull that figure from? Banda gup choortay huay bhi kuch sooch hi laita hay!
It actually costs more for a full payment patient moron! :hitwall: Twice as much actually than in any other hospital. But in charging one patient more, they generate enough resources to fund the treatment of atleast two more patients with the same type of cancer. As far as donations go, I've been going to SKMCH since 1999 (started off as an acute lymphoblastic leukaemai patient) and know people in their finance dept very well. Overseas donations actually account for only 32% of their total fund generation the rest comes from local donations of whom a large portion is composed of relatively small regular sums. Another large source are ex patients.

Please include a reputable source before quoting such prices because we all know cancer has alot of different types and stages and each one of them might involve a different length / type of treatment i-e very expensive treatment .
I had mild fever a few weeks ago and I bought injection and a leaf of tablets worth nearly Rs.1200 , Imagine what would be the price of cancer treating tablets / injections/hospital visits/doctor's fee /Hospital stay charges etc. and the frequency of them for different patients... a middle class person would almost be broke.
The prices of medical equipment have gone sky high due to massive inflation .

.
For example, this year the total cost, (and I mean cost not what they charge the patients who are paying in toto), for the treatment of an ALL patient is Rs1.3 million over the whole 3 year treatment period and this is adjusted for inflation each year. Meaning, the poor patients of ALL starting treatment in 2010 will cost atleast this much to treat.
Off hand, I've seen some of the worst displays of our national hypocrisy at SKMCH. Families come in brand new Suvs, luxury cars etc, women loaded with gold jewellery, and the first place these fags go to is the financial assistance office. 90% of these characters are either landlords or industrialists/ businessmen. The fags can pay 60 mill for a BMW x5 etc but can't afford 30 mill as someone on full payment. In say behtar hamari tarha k upper middle or middle class loog hain who atleast pay in full if we can affod to do so, I know, my parents did as did so many others I met over there and continue to meet. Waiting area mein baith ker apni Rolex ka show marayin gay per payment challans per on Zakat ki stamp lagwatay huay inko sharam tuk nahin aati. Haraaamkhor qaum!

I'm somewhat against setting up everything in a few big cities. Peshawar does have its share of good hospitals. If they had set up the hospital in a city somewhat to the south, more people would have had easier access to it. D. I. Khan would have given relatively easier access to people from southern KP, northern Baluchistan and central and south Punjab. A third branch could be opened in southern Pakistan, say Hyderabad.

I mixed up lakhs and millions in my last post. It should be 6 and 3 million.
Sorry about this post, my pc is out and my smartphone's browser won't let me edit that post.

This is great news. We need more hospitals like Shaukat Khanum.

Although all major hospitals have oncology deptt. but the work that is going on in SKMH is amazing. My friend worked there a couple of years ago and he was all praise for it. They really are helping the poor.

And i agree with red-grifffin, rich people do take advantage of such hospitals and procedures.

While i was working in Hayatabad Medical Complex, i regularly saw rich folk getting their medicines through the Zakat funds, owing to some high level connections in the government, and when the poor needed these funds, there wouldn't be any left.

What i did with these "rich people" was to give or prescribe them medicines which were not on the Zakat list:chilli:. Diabolic, i know, but i had to do it.

regards,
