China, Turkey pledge mutual support, closer cooperation

BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday, and they pledged mutual support on issues of major concern.

The leaders agreed that the two sides should keep in mind the general direction of the bilateral relationship, strengthen political trust and link their development strategies.

China and Turkey, both important members of the G20, face mounting common challenges and obligations against the backdrop of a complex and volatile international situation, a gloomy global economy and grim security situation in West Asia and North Africa, said the Chinese president.

"The two sides should enhance mutual trust and lay a more solid foundation for friendship," Xi said.

Xi said he appreciates President Erdogan's and the Turkish government's stance opposing all forms of terrorism as well as all attempts in Turkish territory to harm China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"[China] is willing to boost law enforcement and security cooperation between the two countries," Xi said.

China looks forward to closer communication between legislatures and government agencies of the two countries to ensure their strategic cooperation progresses along the right track, said the Chinese president.

Xi said China stands ready to link the Belt and Road initiative with Turkey's development strategy in pursuit of common prosperity. He also proposed the two sides implement a mid- and long-term plan for trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, which was signed after their talks at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi also hoped for more coordination with Turkey on global economic governance, climate change and other issues to safeguard the common interests of the two nations and other developing countries.

Erdogan, who is making a two-day state visit to China from Wednesday to Thursday, said the Turkish government always looks at ties with China from a strategic perspective and is committed to the development of Turkey-China strategic cooperation.

Turkey is willing to make joint efforts with China to boost cooperation on trade, investment, technology, industry and infrastructure, said the visiting president.

Erdogan stressed that the Turkish government sticks to the one-China policy, supports China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and opposes terrorist activities of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) aimed at China.

Turkey will boost cooperation with China and will not allow strategic cooperation with China be affected by ill-minded forces, Erdogan said. Turkey is also a victim of terrorism, he added.

The Turkish government will resolutely fight all forms of terrorism and hopes for international society's support, Erdogan said.

Erdogan said China is an important player in the international community and that Turkey is willing to increase communication with China on major international and regional affairs.

Prior to the talks, Xi held a red-carpet ceremony to welcome the Turkish president.

Earlier on Wednesday, Erdogan laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes in Beijing.

I have to hand it to Xi. Can anyone here make a speech and say that without cracking up in laughter?

This is a very strong statement, and poignant in mentioning "attempts in Turkish territory to harm China's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

President is clearly referring to attacks to Chinese interests in Turkey as well as the terrorist Uighur movements nestled in Turkey.

Well, considering that Turkey has strained relations with Egypt, Israel and the EU, letting her ties with China cool down is a blunder Ankara can least afford. Oh btw, more news has reached us:

Turkey keen on upgrading strategic ties with China: Erdogan

ANKARA, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that his country seeks to boost ties with China at all levels as part of "strategic cooperation" agreed upon by the two countries in 2010.

"There are some projects agreed upon with China within the strategic cooperation we launched in 2010, which we have to speed them up," Erdogan told reporters before he departed for Beijing, the first leg of a regional tour that will also take him to Indonesia and Pakistan.

This is Erdogan's first official state visit since he took the office in 2014.

Erdogan said he will meet with his Chinese counterpart, as well as the parliament speaker and the prime minister. He will also ink several agreements there.

He added that he will discuss issues about the G-20, currently under Turkey's presidency.

"I believe this visit will give more momentum to bilateral relations," Erdogan said, noting that a joint business forum will be held during his visit to Beijing.

Asked about the long-standing talks between the two countries to buy the Chinese long rage surface-to-air missile system, Erdogan recalled that China offered the most appropriate proposal in advance.

"But later, some developments have caused impediments. We'll discuss these issues again during this visit. Any offer that will enrich this appropriate proposal will be welcomed by us," said the Turkish president.

In 2013, Ankara accepted a bid from China Precision Machinery Export-Import Corporation (CPMIEC) for its first anti-missile system of 3.4 billion U.S. dollars, but the agreement is yet to be signed.

Ankara has also been conducting talks with U.S. defense contractor Raytheon, the producer of the Patriot missile system, and French-Italian company Eurosam over their SAMP/T system.

@Lure @IR-TR
I'm gonna start a seperate article about Turkey-China relations. I will Show as much facts as possible about the internal problems of Turkey and how Situation of Uyghur Turks are used in order to exploit sentimental culture of Turkish people by the right wing politicians.

However I wanna say that this is strictly a political issue and is nothing about Turkish people or culture. But just like our right wing politicians some idiot Chinese trolls try to spread very annoying ideas. There is still a very good portion of Turkish people who has no hard feelings against Chinese people.

Blame Turkish government as much as you want. But making racist comments against Turkish people like @Beidou2020 , @opruh , @+4vsgorillas-Apebane , @Jlaw and some others will only erode the respect that is shown to themselves.

Where did you read Turkey supports genocide? From where did you read Turks are islamic terrorists? Western media? If you guys really wanna use western media as Your intellectual compass, than open CNN pick some Random article about China and start to hate Your own country.

Check some posts of Turkish "atof" and you would understand why Chinese "trolls" talk bad about Turkey. Uighurs are minority of China. Turkish govenmental agencies/agents have recently in one way or the other involved in smuggling Uighurs out of the country. To buy their way out each Uighur paid a few thousand US dollars to the Turkish passport holding middle hand. Damage to the ties is already down.

I think you have a problem with understanding what you read. Please read my post again. I say you can blame Turkish government as much as you want. But talking bad about Turkish people or Turkish culture is nothing but racism.

For example @opruh had written here that Turks are only good for blowing themselves up. Do you also think the same? I'm a Turk. Do you believe I'm an islamic terrorist as well? Do you think I'm gonna blow myself up? Well let me tell you something, I don't practice any religion. And even if I do, that still won't make me a terrorist. If you think otherwise than you're nothing but a troll that has intellectual capacity of grandfathers of european people : meaning you're at least 100 years behind the up to date political environment. Isis is behind 500 years. So you have more common points with İsis then I do have.

I will start another thread and write a more detailed analysis about Turkey-China relations and problems about Turkish internal affairs. But to make a Quick review I can say that Turkish public opinion is widely divided. And this division is very visible in the last 15 years. At least half of Turkish people demands European standards, neither chauvanist nor dogmatic religious international policies but pragmatic ones. And the other half liken populism, they are very scheptical about western policies, they can't make empathy. They always want but never want to give. They always believe the rest of the world is their enemies and they can't forge Healthy Relations. I don't think those people would be able to maintain long term sustainable relations with any nation.

I don't wanna repeat my views about Uyghur Turks. You can check out my previous posts. I always say that our government is idiot for creating such a mess.
