Top leaders of the party, including the BNP secretary general, had Iftar with foreign diplomats stationed in Dhaka. The party hosted the Iftar party in honor of diplomats from different countries at the Westin Hotel in the capital on Tuesday.

No Chinese or Russian diplomat came to the BNP's event. The BNP has recently issued a statement opposing Russia's attack on the Ukraine war. A few months ago, the party issued a statement criticizing China for praising Bangladesh's democracy. Apart from this, no representatives of Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Bahrain were seen.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman addressed the gathering via Skype from London. In his welcome address, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, "Earlier, party chairman Khaleda Zia used to have Iftar with you." He is under house arrest today.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Palestinian Ambassador Yusuf S. Y. Ramadan, US Ambassador Peter Haas, Swedish Ambassador Alexandra Berg von Lind, and Turkish Ambassador to Turkey Mustafa Ostaman.

The Iftar was attended by British High Commissioner Robert Chatterton Dixon, Indian High Commissioner Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy, Swiss Ambassador Nathalie Shewakh, Norwegian Ambassador Aspen Richter Wendsen and diplomats from Pakistan, European Union and other countries. Also present were representatives of UNHCR, UNDP, NDI, Democracy International.

Among the BNP leaders are Jamiruddin Sarkar, Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Abdullah Al Noman, Shahjahan Omar, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Abdul Awal Mintu, Mohammad Shahjahan and Mir Nasir. , Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Tabitha Awal etc. were present.

Educationist AFM Yusuf Haider, Professor Dilara Chowdhury, Economist Professor Mahbub Ullah, Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank Saleh Uddin Ahmed, Editor of Daily Inquilab AMM Bahauddin, Manabzamin Editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, Former Prime Minister's Press Secretary Tajul Islam and other government and private officials were present.

. .
BNP taking clues from PPP and PML-N in Pakistan. They want to come back to power using Uncle's help.

Historically China was close supporter to BNP, but it seems that is no longer the case.

I just hope we don't go back to the same political instability of the 90s and early 2000s. If there's a regime change, let it be peaceful. AL won't survive after Sheikh Hasina steps down or retires or dies. So hopefully the transition to a different govt. Can be without foreign interference and democratic.

Think BD should be ok as Hasina is likely to continue for one more term before she leaves BD politics due to retirement or death.

We are looking at 2030ish and so both BD would be a more developed/educated country and the world will be less dominated by the US/West.

BNP again showing why they are not fit for government by taking sides in the Russia-Ukraine war.

BNP is the BAF of politics. They do not have the organisational strength to pull off any such major stunts successfully.

They were never well organised to begin with. Due to BKZ's poor leadership, other members of the governing council run roughshod, putting their personal agendas ahead of the party's.
BNP allowed Taiwan open a trading office in BD to serve the business interests of a certain BNP leader (probably Morshed Khan from memory) which pissed China off. This is part of the reason why China leans towards BAL.
BKZ ruined relations with Russia through pure pettiness in relation to MiG-29's - she just could not fathom BAL buying advanced fighter jets of the time so she refused to pay for the ones delivered and cancelled the order for a further 8 units. Russia ended up taking us to court.

BNP are such loser arrangers. Look at the size of the table and the reluctant diplomats.

Pathetic.

My daily iftar arrangements are better....

I know - it's not the food, blah, blah, blah....

But these losers could at least show some respect to these diplomats, especially when Indian and Pakistani diplomats were present...

US has suddenly became hot favorites of opposition parties all across the world :D
Maybe Kaangress too - eh?

How many freakin' tablespoons does a homo sapien example need during the course of a single bloody meal?
And what's with the table cloth? It eerily resembles the 'nakra' our maid uses to mop floors.

BNP should rebrand itself as the Bolod Nincompoop Party - people just might elect them in appreciation of the unprecedented display of honesty in the Bangladeshi political discourse.

Exactly - I rather like the name Bolod Nincompoop Party. Has a certain (ahem) ring to it. :-)

Where did you get this small intelligence that Uncle Sam ousted IK? Is it because IK himself claimed so? But, he is unable to show any proofs to support his claim.

IK is no different from others. Just blame America for every bad thing that falls upon one's head. Illiterate people of south Asia believe everything said against America the Devil.

By the way, ask IK to produce proofs to support his claim.

No matter whichever party comes to power in BD, the election must be held in a fair atmosphere and not in the midnight as usually happens in BD. The US sanctions are working well, it seems.

No more disappearances or killings by RAB or Police in BD.
