SINGAPORE – Singapore says it has arrested and deported 26 Bangladeshi construction workers for forming a religious study group that spread the ideology of al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group.

The Home Ministry said Wednesday the workers were arrested in November and detained without trial under the city-state's rigorous Internal Security Act.

It says they held discreet weekly meetings to share jihadi-related materials and discuss armed conflicts involving Muslims. It also says its members supported the teachings of U.S.-born radical Islamic cleric Imam Anwar al-Awlaki.

The ministry says that they were not planning attacks in Singapore, but that an investigation showed that several of them had considered carrying out attacks overseas.

. . . .
Good. Hasina can put them in jail and maybe hang a few of the ring leaders.

More countries should screen these paddy workers thoroughly before letting them in to do the menial jobs....because you never know what they have been indoctrinated with/frustrated with.

Outrageous.. BD should declare war on Singapore.

But how is that possible?
Bangladeshis can do no wrong, these are probably Singaporean Muslims that Singapore government is discriminating against and somewhere in there RAW must be involved too. :coffee:

.
Canada must follow Singapore steps and round up characters like @asad71 . They are probably up to the same sort of activity as these guys.....but unfortunately Canadian govt does not care like Singapore's about providing a safe environment.

Why would they do that? Singapore is actually helping SHW here. BD is within rights to declare war (or at least put whatever diplomatic pressure it can) if instead Singapore was sheltering, protecting and aiding such people....rather than investigating, exposing, capturing and deporting them back to SHW govt to deal with.

Everyone that matters is on the same page here. Only jamatis will be angry that members of their kind have been dealt with....and other Bangladeshis will be angry that their attempts to make it look like jamatis are a tiny and contained problem have also come to naught. Both explain why no B'deshi posters have said anything on this thread yet.

1.None of them have been found to have any links with IS, etc. Half of them have been let off. Others are being investigated for their links with local Islamic parties - all of which are non-violent type.
2. I hope Mods would screen out Paid Posters who have been infiltrated here only to derail / sabotage positive discussion

14 Men Deported From Singapore Are Terrorists: Bangladesh Police

DHAKA: Bangladeshi police will charge 14 men with membership of a banned group after Singapore deported them for suspected terrorist links last year, a senior police official said on Thursday.

The case comes amid rising concerns over the growth of Islamist militancy in the South Asian nation, which saw a string of deadly attacks on secular writers, minorities and foreigners last year.

The suspects were among a batch of 27 construction workers that Singapore accused of having links to Islamist groups including al-Qaeda and ISIS.

Police said they had found no evidence of links to al-Qaeda and ISIS, but that 14 of the men were members of a banned group blamed for attacks on five secular bloggers, including a publisher, last year.

"They are linked with banned Islamist militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT)," police spokesman Maruf Hussain Sarder told Reuters on Thursday.

Of the other men, one remains in prison in Singapore and the other 12 have been released in Bangladesh after they were deported.

Sarder said the 12 remained under observation and had promised to cooperate with police.

"We will keep vigilant watch on them. All 12 gave us a written commitment that when ever we ask them a question they will respond," Sarder said.

Bangladesh has suffered a wave of Islamist terrorist violence in recent months, including a series of bomb attacks on the mosques of minority Muslim sects and Hindu temples.

ISIS extremists claimed the killings of a Japanese citizen, an Italian aid worker and a policeman.

The government has denied that ISIS has a presence in the country of 160 million people and blamed the attacks on home-grown Islamist terrorists.

Last month six people were wounded in a bombing at a mosque inside a naval base in the port city of Chittagong, the first militant attack on a mosque used by the country's Sunni majority.

==================

Your claim that they are linked to "non-violent" islamic parties is quite rubbish....or is there such a thing as non-violent terrorist?

Keep reaching....and keep grabbing failure.

One can witness your sympathy for ISIS in your BD military forum. I hope Canadian govt has taken note of that and is watching your activities closely.
