Sikh youth who removed turban to help wounded boy lauded worldwide

so somedays hinduism is cultural thing and some days religion?
religion is only a subset, the universal set is the culture...for ex i dont follow Hinduism but Hinduism is part of my history,my beilefs ( karma), and my lifestyle ( meditation,yoga)..thats what hinduism is to me...not religion,a culture.

Don't tax your brain no further. Hang out with like minded people.
Worry abt ur brain not others. He made a statement , iasked him to expand on it.

Your inability to comprehend a relatively simple concept is rather concerning my friend

Wht inability? U said there is an overlap between culture and religion ,iasked u to expand. Fine u cant, just leave it.

Its not about religion. Even a Hindu or a Muslim or a Christian can do deeds outside purview of religion just to satisfy requirements of Humanity.

Its all bout how good that person was and more important how pragmatic with presence of mind the person is.
"outside of the purview of religion" helping an injured child is not going to be out of the purview of any religion bro!

I'm pretty sure every single religion will say something about doing good deeds!

This is actually one of the biggest issues I have with the way this article is written, it seems to be implying that what this guy did was somehow outside the norm or not what the average Sikh/man would do! Like I have said, there is nothing at all in Sikhism that would even remotely frown upon such behaviour. Sikhism is all about doing rather than mindless ritual. The Turban is not some sacred garment that must be treated in some special way.

The subtext of this article is basically "oh look a Brown person did something good for once", it's racism in another form.

U can draw lines between things that are cultural and that are religious?

I am not able to speak on behalf of all atheist Hindus (being neither an atheist or a Hindu!), i have simply stated that there is such a notion as being culturally Hindu but an atheist in the same way there is the notion of being culturally Jewish but not actually believing in God.

yes i can...as you said if i believe in rigveda or any hindu text, then iam hindu....but what if i find the message of some other religious text, like Guru Granth sahib meaningful? then it means that iam a sikh..no..its all about what you believe in, which is directly related to your culture,

There is nothing culturally jewish .
Dont ever make this statement before a jew.
Judaism is a complete strictly bounded religion, and has a very tough criteria before one is accepted into its fold.

Nah I think I would rather stay and see how this pans out.
Then silently do.

I've heard many, many Jews refer to themselves as this, it is actually quite common.
