NEW DELHI: The government today said Sikh militant groups from abroad are trying to resurrect militancy in Punjab.

"Available reports suggest that Sikh militant groups especially those based in abroad, are continuing their efforts to revive militancy in Punjab," Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken informed the Lok Sabha.

"A close watch is maintained on the activities of various groups known to have been engaged in trying to foment terrorist activities in Punjab," he said in a written reply.

The Minister said, "the government has adopted an integrated approach to counter such attempts, inter alia, include sustained vigilance along the borders, strengthening of mechanisms for intelligence gathering and sharing, modernisation and upgradation of police and security forces with advanced and sophisticated weapons."

In addition, pro-Khalistan terrorist outfits namely, Babbar Khalsa International, International Sikh Youth Federation, Khalistan Commando Force and Khalistan Zindabad Force continue to be listed as Terrorist Organisations in the schedule of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act, 2004, he said.

In reply to another question related to anti-national activities being carried out along the Indo-Nepal border, Maken said, "there are indications and incidental reports that the India-Nepal border have been misused by anti-India elements for creating false propaganda and for encouraging trans-border criminal activities."

"The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has been deployed all along the Indo-Nepal border to check illegal instances and to stop cross border crimes," the Minister said.

10th thread on this topic, someone is really hopeful.

Pity the Indian gov and failed media for unsucessfull attempts on propoganda. Anyone who has half decent skill on youtube knows Sikh millitancy is alive and operated from UK. They regularly released video journals and speeches too.

There is quite a big group in the UK....that have the desire to restart the Miltancy groups in India. It seems like they have not forgot 1984....and want revenge from the Indian goverement.

the sikhs in india have no such issues. manmohan is the PM of the country. not president which is a nominal head but PM who has all the executive power.

uk is breeding all kinds of extremists for some reason.

Like your goverement said in this article....Punjab is breeding extremism....not the UK.....so its your own fault....you should not have attacked the Golden temple in 1984.

They have been at it for long, not only in UK but Canada as well. But they will remain just that, hyperbolic and fire brand speakers, nothing else. They need the help of Sikhs in India to make it materialize and at the moment that just doesn't seem like happening.

dude uk has got extremists of all stripes within its borders. reasons might be complex but it would be UK's responsibility to catch people trying to fund/organize militancy in india, of course in co-operation with the indian government.
