Should Rajput Class Destroyers be Transferred to Vietnam and Philliphines

Kolkata Class Destroyer will Replace the First 3 Rajputs and First 2 P15B will Replace the Last 2 Rajputs.

Rajputs are 5000 Tonnes Armed with 8xBrahmos, Dhanush Nuclear Capable Ballistic Missile Range 350 Km, 32 Barak 1 SAM.

Rajputs would be Retired within the Next 5 Years.


Rajputs can be Sold to Vietnam in Hot Condition armed with Brahmos, Dhanush and Barak Point Defence.

If Philiphines had such a Ship in the Recent Dispute, Chinese would Not Dare to Mess up.

It could Cost like $80-$100 Million for a Fully Armed Ship.

But Vietnam would get its Hand on a Destroyer (Anything Bigger than they Operate).

China's Best Ship Type 052C has 200 Km SAM Range. Rajput guided with 290 Km Brahmos can come within 290 Km Range and Hit any Chinese Ship. China has no Defence against Brahmos.

On a Ship to Ship Basis, Rajput can Take on any Chinese Ship.

does Rajput class have enough steam left to get transferred to another navy? First one was inducted into Indian navy in 1980 & last one in 1988, this means that every ship in the class when transferred to another navy will be atleast 35 years old. If this is possible than we should surely transfer the ship to forge stronger ties in tune with our Look East policy.

On the other hand, Indian ships generally lack of modern SAM systems. In a similar way, a boat like this can sink your oldest or VN/Phil's newest destroyer. I doubt the radar on Rajput can find these boats from 200KM away.

he is asking a question whose answer is YES it can...Rajput are equipped with latest in missile technology, the stealth factor is hardly applicable in modern naval warfare when it only reduces RCS by half at the most.

As we speak, Filipinos are inducting 40 Year Old US Coast Guard Cutters. If needed We can Subsidize it

A supersonic cruise missile means it is not stealth. The heat and Infrared signal gives it away to the enemy. At the same time, the giant size and weight of the missile makes impossible to out run smaller but smarter SAMs.

That's why the US and China don't deploy supersonic cruise missiles on their ships. Sub-sonic cruise missiles have much longer attack range and is more stealth if flying right about the sea.

For supersonic missiles like Bramoth, if it tries do the same, the air friction will cut short it's already shortened range greatly. But if the Bramoth choose the fly high route, it will be captured by the radar soon after launch and being intercepted by a SAM in the middle of the way.
