1. The only country which was throwing her weight for this resolution was USA.
2. India has historical policy of publicly supporting Palestine cause since the days of Tagore.
3. Israel knows it very well. And the fact this happened after Modi's visit to Israel mean Israel also knew what will be Modi government's stand on this.
4. Even if India had supported this, no fruitful result for Israel had happened.
5. US isn't being very supportive of Indian interests and serving local appeasement policy: things like H1B reduction and harder immigration policies.
6. Middle East: the biggest source of foreign remittance to India had specifically asked Indian position on this issue publicly. Making it clear they want to see India standing with them on this issue.
7. Whole of the world was lining up against US backed resolution.

So the decision was pretty clear.

Vote against US. Send a clear message that US is not doing enough for Indian interests. As far as Israel goes, their diplomacy is way more mature than US these and can be dealt with separately, in a non-public forum.
