Sheikh Mujib - the greatest leader in South Asia

Jinnah has his place and no one doubts his contribution to PK.

However, he has never been lionised in BD as he had in PK, not because we have anything against him.

It simply because he was never a personality in BD, he had no say in Muslim League of Bengal and held no popular position in the heart of the people of BD. We have our own leaders such as Sher-e-bangla, such as huseyn shaheed suhrawardy, Maulana Bhashani, khwaji nazimuddin, etc.

Jinnah as others have said sought to impose urdu, without going into the right or wrong of that policy it displayed great insensitivity towards what at that time was the majority population of PK. I personally belive it was a honest miscalculation on his part as a result lack of understanding of Bengal. Anyhow suffice it to say Jinnah is respected at a basic level but he is not part of BDs national narrative, just a footnote.

We can safely conclude Jinnah is mostly remembered in Bangladesh as the one who imposed Urdu Language; and thus, in negative light.

So should I believe you or the two Bengali posters above?

Which one of you unhinged muppets are right?
You should believe what Pakistanis say. Don't think otherwise. For many Pakistanis all people of Bangladesh are indian stooge and Hindu! Now decision is yours 🤔

I am dismayed that our nation’s founding father is being co-opted by Hinduvta. Making movies and creating idols etc

But I am pleased that Pakistanis are also co-opting him. Imran Khan aspires to be the Mujib of west Pakistan. I hope the great man succeeds.

Whereas Gandhi, Nehru, Patel and Jinnah remain divisive figures.

ONLY SHEIKH MUJIB UNITES THE FACTIONS IN SOUTH ASIA
I would say he is greatest leader of Bangladesh, not in south Asia.

There were plenty of great leaders in this region and Mujib is no greater than them.

But for sure he is the greatest leader and founding father of Bangladesh!

( Although Bhasani was still alive , but I rate him one of the greatest leaders before the creation of Bangladesh! He made way for Mujib wining majority seats by not contesting in 1970, because Mujib was the promising and effective leader for Bengalis)

I appreciate the sentiment you are seeking to convey and the jokey nature of your OP.

Having said that mujib is father of the nation only to BAL. The real father of BD to the rest of us is Sher-e-Bangla Abul Kasem Fazlul Huq.
Don't write the name of sher e Bangla. Modern day Bangladesh doesn't deserve him. He was far superior to later days leaders.

Jinnah probably meant well but killed goodwill by trying to force Urdu as the ONLY state language.
Urdu was the lingua franca.without a medium to connect how could have two wings communicated. no one was stopping bengalis to stop learning bengali.. furthermore this was a country where many other language groups existed so giving a prefernrtial treatment to one by making it a state language would have broken the other wing apart.

Having Urdu as the only state language would mean all official documentation would have to be in Urdu with no room for Bengali. It was very tone deaf to try imposing that on Bengalis given our history and culture. The ideal solution would have been to recognise all major languages as official languages and maybe declare English and Urdu as the "common" languages.

So a country with 7 or 8 official languages and no line to draw where it starts for the rest of the socalled minor languages..so they keep protesting. again lingua franca has to be there.. either you pick one or choose English.. either way it would have been "imposition" on bengalies.
I'm sure Bangladesh has a few regional languages of their own as well. Is bengali imposed on them?
Bengal as province would have retained its local language just like other provinces but that was unacceptable.as the issues were .ade political.
Your issue was likely with the urdu speaking bureaucracy that had a big role initially in affairs .just so you know that went away with time.
