Setback for India as consensus eludes NSG meeting

Yes, my understanding of the 1962 China-India war is that Nehru got too cocky, presumably, because of the anti-communist Western sentiments of those days. Plain and simple: The 1962 China-India war was India's hubris.

Yes mate, Nehru was very anti-communist. Despite being a proponent of the non alignment principle, that might be the reason that he favored USSR over the West. :p:

NSG is nothing more than a prestige issue for India now. I mean, we are already riding a motorbike without wearing a helmet while others are supposed to. So nothing much to worry for us. :)

Nehru was a servant of the Westerners:

Nehru pleaded for US help in 1962 - Times of India

The irony is that the USSR would have been a much better bet against China at that point (due to the Sino-Soviet Split).

Dialogue is your proof now?

You guys were so confident you were going to get the NSG seat after you sold your sovereignty to America.

But what happened? Do you understand what veto power means?

Keep getting disappointed again and again. Until you open a dictionary and understand what veto means.
Wonder what can China do ? it cant stop Japan -India deal , Indian -Australian deal etc.

NSG is mere a seat , its has no power to stop Indian from getting technology now.

Sounds exactly the same as what you said before you were shut down 2 times in a row.

India spent all of their political capital trying to get that NSG seat, even signing away their sovereignty with the LEMOA.

But they still don't understand what veto power means. Veto power means we can shut it down for any reason at all. In fact we don't even need to give a reason.

If we have a secret deal with US, then our NSG seat is a done deal. Let Trump administration tighten screws on China economically and you will be begging to do what they want. NSG is not P5 where you alone have veto there all 48 members have veto powers as NSG works on consensus and not voting

Nehru was an idealist in social justice and a new world order after WW 2. But he was not a communist nor even a true socialist. India was a very capitalist country from the inception--some so-called leftist trappings notwithstanding.

Anyway, it's simplistic to say that Nehru, being a socialist/communist/leftist wouldn't have attacked China. Quite the contrary...Nehru must have sensed some internal Chinese weaknesses then and some perceived Western backing then to have postured so belligerently against China despite India's much weaker forces.

In the end, despite drubbing India, China didn't opt for holding the territory won in the war; that should tell something.

Pundit Nehru: A well meaning idealist who was put on the pedestal by the West.

But of-course that makes he anti-Chinese, never anti-communist. :p:

And during crisis who doesn't request for the help ?? Even you did while the Jap's overran your troops in Manchuria back in 1931. It was the west who kept on supporting China against Japan. So it's not just India every country request and expect help from their allies and friends during crisis. :-)

Eventually a day will come where it will be China-Pakistan VS all other members, we will wait and see how will your veto serve the purpose then. Mark my words, it will be China who will offer NSG to India on a diplomatic platter. :)

From your reply you still have no clue what veto power means.

So what if 48 members have veto power? The whole point is that you only ever need 1 veto to shut it down.

We have veto, India does not. There is no point explaining this, you won't understand.

Do you even understand difference between working on consensus and Veto? Let me try, consensus is where a common point is tried and reached where all parties are in agreement after discussions and deliberation. Now it may be your view, my view or some other view. Veto is where one or more parties have the power of refusal or rejection. NSG work on consensus and nobody has a Veto power there. You can say we don't believe this is a good idea, you can't say no we don't want them here. Got it?

Most younger generation Chinese do not have the knowledge of 1962 China-India Border conflict, but it seems it is a national humiliation to many Indians until this day. Indian history book did not tell them the truth, and majority Indians believed "back-stabbing" story, until recently.

It was a very small scale border war, and it only involved a few infantry divisions stationed in South-West part of China. Chinese was prepared for the worse scenario, but things turned out to be better than anticipated.

Too bad, Chinese decided to withdraw from South-Tibet, just not to alienate India too the point of no return. China at the time was preparing for the large scale invasion from Taiwan with the backing of USA 7th Fleet, and suffering the worst famine in a decade. Splitting with USSR did not help either.

1962
We defeated the Soviet Union in the northeast of China.
In the Korean Peninsula we defeated the American forces and their allied forces.
1962 we defeated India.
We defeated Vietnam in the South China Sea.
We love peace, but we will do our best to defeat them when we face the invaders.
