Hit American TV series, ‘Quantico’ — which features Priyanka Chopra in the lead — faced a lot of online backlash after its latest episode portrayed Indian nationalists attempting to frame Pakistan in a terrorist plot. The outrage led U.S. television studio ABC to issue an official apology to its Indian fans.
In a statement quoted by Reuters, Walt Disney-owned ABC stated:
“The episode has stirred a lot of emotion, much of which is unfairly aimed at Priyanka Chopra, who didn’t create the show, nor does she write or direct it. The show has featured antagonists of many different ethnicities and backgrounds, but in this case we inadvertently and regrettably stepped into a complex political issue. It was certainly not our intention to offend anyone.”
A day after ABC issued the official apology, fringe group ‘Hindu Sena’ organized protests against actress Priyanka for “degrading Hindus as terrorists and saying India sponsors terror to “frame” Pakistan,” their press release stated.

The release further added,
“Started her career by crying foul about being ill-treated and being victim of racism in United States, Priyanka Chopra used derogatory reference to India and Hindus in her American series, ‘Quantico.’”
“A woman, who is a daughter of an Indian Army Officer, who got a chance to represent India and was crowned Miss World, Bollywood actress and part of other National and International Humanitarian projects and UN Goodwill Ambassador has stooped to such lows to gain a few dollars and some fame and a desperate attempt to fit in International circle is utterly shameful and disgraceful,” the release further read.
“If she cannot speak good about India and Hindus, she shouldn’t speak negative. Being a professional actor, she always had a chance to refuse to act in the scene or get the offensive dialogues referring to Hindus and India as terrorists modified, but she chose to ignore and shoot the scenes as they have come out in public, showing her disrespect to Sovereignty of India and Indians,” the press release reads.
“Priyanka Chopra has been repeatedly acting against interest of Indian State, be it favouring and visiting Rohinghyas or willfully acting in a derogatory scene referring to India and Hindus. Priyanka should apologise to Hindus and Indians,” the press release further demands.
The press release concluded with:
“Hindu Sena appeals to public in general to boycott any work, ads or movies of Priyanka Chopra and appeal to Indian government to strip her of Indian citizenship and deny her entry in India.”
After the latest episode aired, Priyanka faced online attacks, with some of her followers even threatening to boycott her work and the brands that she has been endorsing. According to Reuters, some others even called on the government to black out scenes where Chopra holds up sacred Hindu prayer beads as evidence that the plotter in the episode, planning to detonate a nuclear bomb in New York, was an Indian nationalist.
