Like I said, considering how USSR, Ukraine and varies nations who underwent "democratic reforms" did in the past few decades, China made the exact right response at the time.
Nah, I have photos of unarmed PLA soldier being burnt alive prior to tank mobilization. It is rather graphic, so I won't post them here, but check out this link:
Let´s Talk About Tiananmen Square, 1989 My Hearsay is Better Than Your |

Today the Tiananmen square event is recognized as a sham and the so-called student leaders can recognized as traitors who sent out other students to die for their personal gain. The reason is actually rather simple----passage of time has shown the truth. The success of China today and disastrous failures of all the nations that embraced the supposedly "democratic" color revolution is pretty hard to argue. Those student leader's later exploits and actions also destroyed what little credibility they have left. At the end of the day, the "democratic" group can shout and promise all they want, the reality is that China made the right decision at the right time and took the appropriate action to ensure its continued prosperity.
I would admit, electoral democracy has a certain lure and mystique when viewed from a distance by the inexperienced, but like a lot of students spending time in US, listening to exactly what is happening in these elections and various cock ups disillusions people pretty quickly. Sometimes I felt Americans can be pretty masochistic. In the sense that they prefer to live with failure caused by their own decision rather than success cause by other people's decision. In contrast, the Chinese like success first and if it is success due to the leadership of others, then so be it. I have no problem with cultures having different philosophies, but personally I like success the most.
