Scottish parliament backs bid for Second independence referendum

.
I doubt that, mainly due to the fact that newly independent states have faired poorly, and are now a laughing stock. The people are not so stupid.
They are. No hope for Scotland. Personally I think we should build a wall and get them to pay for it.

The Scottish parliament on Tuesday backed First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s bid for a new independence referendum, further complicating Britain’s political situation just as years of talks on the terms of Brexit were about to begin.
... not again :rolleyes1:

When will people learn that in the global economy, you don't want to make your country smaller and smaller and smaller.:shout:

The Union Jack would look so ugly without Scotland. :p:

The flag of England is derived from St George's Cross. The association of the red cross as an emblem of England can be traced back to the Middle Ages, and it was used as a component in the design of the Union Flag in 1606.

The Flag of Scotland, also known as St Andrew's Cross or the Saltire, is the national flag of Scotland. According to legend, the Christian apostle and martyr Saint Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland, was crucified on an X-shaped cross at Patras, (Patrae), in Achaea. Use of the familiar iconography of his martyrdom, showing the apostle bound to an X-shaped cross, first appears in the Kingdom of Scotland in 1180 during the reign of William I. It was again depicted on seals used during the late 13th century, including on one used by the Guardians of Scotland, dated 1286.

The national flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the Union Jack, also called the "Union Flag". The current design of the Union Jack dates from the union of Ireland and Great Britain in 1801. It consists of the red cross of Saint George (patron saint of England), edged in white, superimposed on the Cross of St Patrick (patron saint of Ireland), which are superimposed on the Saltire of Saint Andrew (patron saint of Scotland). Wales, however, is not represented in the Union Flag by Wales's patron saint, Saint David, as at the time the flag was designed Wales was part of the Kingdom of England.

If Scotland goes, perhaps a good time to (finally) do something with the Flag of Saint David (Wales)

And this is the Dutch Coat of Arms. Are you familiar with the coat of arms ? Which one is your favorite among European countries (or ex-European countries/empires) ?

Scotland Wants out of UK into Europe

The Scottish government on Friday formally asked British Prime Minister Theresa May for a second referendum on independence, deepening a constitutional crisis sparked by the Brexit vote.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon wrote a letter to Theresa May telling her that Scotland did not want to leave Europe’s single market, two days after Britain launched the process of leaving the European Union.

Tthe circumstances have changed since a 2014 independence referendum in which 55 percent voted to stay part of Britain

“The people of Scotland must have the right to choose our own future,” Sturgeon, leader of the ruling Scottish National Party, said in the letter. Scotland voted to remain in the EU in last year’s referendum but Britain as a whole voted to leave.

Sturgeon argues that this means the circumstances have changed since a 2014 independence referendum in which 55 percent voted to stay part of Britain. She said the government had rejected “all attempts at compromise” on Brexit — a reference to her proposal for Scotland to be allowed to stay in the European single market even as the rest of Britain leaves.

“There appears to be no rational reason for you to stand in the way of the will of the Scottish parliament and I hope you will not do so,” she said. The Scottish Parliament voted by 69 votes to 59 on Tuesday for another referendum, but it cannot hold a legally-binding vote without London’s approval. Sturgeon has said she wants the referendum to be held by early 2019 before Britain leaves the EU.

Hope Scotland get that right and use it to leave UK.

. .
Brexit will affect various parts of UK differently. If the Scots feel aggrieved, they should walk out of the UK. Not everyone has to be a part of this stupidity.

. .
referendum failed the last time and it'll fail again.

I reckon about 45-47% of the population want independence...it's a very, very strong minority...but, that's exactly what it is...a minority!
