Schoolgirls stage bicycle rally in Panchagarh

Duranta Bicycle recently patronised a unique bike rally to raise awareness against superstition and to increase female participation in educational institutions. Around 500 female students of 10 secondary schools of Panchagarh, a sub-Himalayan district took part at the rally organised by district administration. The 4 km rally started at the Panchagarh Sirajul Islam Stadium and concluded at the same point after parading the key streets of the district.

The theme of the rally was ‘Tumi Egiye Gele Egiye Jabe Bangladesh’. Chowdhury Fazla Akbar, Head of Marketing at Duranta Bicycle said the objective of the rally was to encourage female students to ride bicycle to stay healthy and make them self-dependent. He also said Duranta Bicycle will patronize such rally in 64 districts by the end of the year.

Amal Krishna Mandal, Deputy Commissioner, Mahmudul Alam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Panchagarh were present, among others, said a statement.

I have seen BD women to be almost immobile without a Rickshaw or other transport. They are very very slow moving with their fat belly and a*s prohibiting them from walking a little faster. I have my personal endorsement to the encouraging effort of BD female school students in the north of the country.

Such small things go a long way in changing the society.

That's why I am all for developing domestic tourism. It will create opportunity for our womenfolks to go out enjoying and have some healthy physical activities. Now women/girls don't have much opportunity to go out and engage some sports.Developing domestic tourism is one of the best way to breakdown societal barrier women faces.I sometimes become awestruck on how much freedom women enjoy at beach in some muslim countries.Look at the beaches of Morocco,Algeria,Tunisia.Their women in either Burkini or Bikini/Shorts enjoying beach sports without much hassle. Can we imagine that in our country?Only way is to promote domestic tourism vigorously. We have largest, finest beach in the world. Why can't we utilize them?
