Saudi Confirms 3 Citizens Took Part in Iraq Border Attack - ABC News

Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry says that three of the four attackers who launched a deadly assault on a security patrol near the Iraqi border this week were Saudi nationals.

Ministry spokesman Mansour al-Turki published the names of the three in a statement on Friday. He says they had in their possession grenades, pistols, rifles, tracking devices and significant sums of money in U.S., Syrian, Iraqi and Saudi currencies.

Al-Turki says authorities have yet to confirm the fourth gunman's identity. All four gunmen died in Monday's attack, which killed three border guards.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, the first deadly assault on Saudi border guards near Iraq since the kingdom joined U.S.-led airstrikes against the Islamic State group, which controls parts of Syria and Iraq.

It could have been @JUBA himself, he has supported ISIS often

No. Not a single Saudi Arabian user on PDF have supported Daesh. At most wishing Daesh and the Al-Assad and his allies to burn mutually which I support as well.

Never mind it is no secret that Saudi Arabian nationals that have joined Daesh want to topple the regime in KSA as well. They already burned their passports too. Let them all die.

Banu Umayyah has disappeared to bomb himself. Anyway JUBA has stated support for ISIS so let's see his opinion.

Banu Umayyah is active on Aviation Arab and 1-2 other Arab military forums from what I recall. Still studying in Canada it seems.

Juba supports the destruction of Farsi puppets in the Arab world. Wise choice as they have no place anywhere in the Arab world.

Impressive Defense Installations, @al-Hasani ! It is even insulting to think that rebels and anti-state threats would have the gall to dare take on The Saudi Royal Army, and the Saudi Royal Air Force, which is the most powerful Air Power in the Arab World. Knowing the fact that there are F-15s patrolling Saudi Air Space and covering the ground below, they should know that any threats will be eradicated on the ground and from the air.

He supports ISIS in Iraq and Syria, so how is that wise ? Iraq never was an Iranian puppet hence they support independent militia's to undermine state control. In Syria ISIS has been beneficial to Assad blocking western intervention and radicalizing the opposition causing the loss of western support.

The threat from Daesh in KSA is solely coming from lone wolfs from within KSA or infiltrators coming into the country from the mostly mountainous border with Yemen or the border with Iraq. The Saudi Arabian-Iraqi border is mostly lowland and desert outside of a few highlands and valleys. The border is very well secured. This attack was done during the night and on a border station.

The mistake was to arrest one of the 2 terrorists that attacked after killing the first one because the former blow himself up and killed 3 border guards. Among them a Brigadier-General. 2 others escaped into a valley outside of Arar before they were eliminated. So the lesson is now to shot and ask questions afterwards.

See post 697 below:

Iraq's war against IS terrorism | Updates and Discussions | Page 47

Since Daesh emerged as a powerful factor in both Syria and Iraq there have only been 2-3 attacks on KSA. 1-2 border attacks on the Yemeni border and this attack in question. Then there were a terrorist attack on the Shia community in the Eastern Province (first of its kind in the history of KSA) in the beginning of November. A few dozen suspects with ties to Daesh were arrested.

There is no reason at all to panic. If they try anything inside KSA they will face the same faith as Al-Qaeda did 10 years ago.

This is the emergency force, a part of the interior ministry not the national guard. The national guard is not 100,000 they are 195,000 not including civilians working for it.

Thanks for the clarification @Mosamania . As for the numbers , i didn't know the National Guard was that massive ! Close to 200,000 strong ! Impressive, really.

@Mosamania ,

So -- His Majesty has the power to deploy the National Guard and conduct necessary operations , right? Or does it require approval of the Shura Council ?

The Royal Saudi Arabian Armed Forces boost an army of around 250.000 men in comparison. The SANG is more like a modern successor of the infamous Ikhwan forces. A branch of the armed forces serving mainly as a security force against internal threats. Members are mostly drafted from loyal clans and tribes.

The SANG responds directly to the monarch and is part of a separate chain of command unlike the armed forces which is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence. Commanders of major units report directly to the King.
