A Saudi academic has won a prestigious Canadian government award for medical research.
Mohammed Abdu Makhlafi, who is an internal medicine and neurology faculty member at Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz University, was conferred the governor general’s gold medal award by the Canadian government for his scientific research in the medical field.
According to sources at the university, the award is one of the highest honors given to medical students at Canadian universities.
Makhlafi, who had studied in Canada, was chosen for a scholarship previously by Calgary University for research into brain diseases and neurology. The Saudi cultural mission in Toronto also recognized his achievements.
There are approximately 16,000 Saudi students studying in Canada.
