চট্টগ্রামে বিশেষ অর্থনৈতিক জোন ও ভোলায় সার কারখানা করার কথা চূড়ান্ত হলেও সৌর বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্রের স্থান নির্ধারিত হয়নি বলে জানিয়েছে বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রণালয়।

আল বাওয়ানি কোম্পানি লিমিটেডের মাধ্যমে সৌদি-জিসিসি বিশেষ অর্থনৈতিক অঞ্চলের প্রস্তাবও দেওয়া হয়েছে।

গত জুনে প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার জেদ্দা সফরকালে বিনিয়োগের সমঝোতার ধারাবাহিকতায় সৌদি আরবের প্রস্তাবটি এসেছে। এ বিনিয়োগ প্রস্তাবে সাড়া দিয়ে প্রাথমিকভাবে চট্টগ্রামের মিরসরাই অঞ্চলে দুই হাজার একর জমি চিহ্নিত করেছে বেজা।

একই সঙ্গে কর্ণফুলী পেপার মিলসের সঙ্গে যৌথ উদ্যোগে একটি নতুন কাগজকল, বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্র ও সিমেন্ট কারখানা নির্মাণ এবং কালিয়াকৈর বঙ্গবন্ধু হাইটেক সিটিসহ বিভিন্ন খাতে বিনিয়োগ আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করেছে দেশটি।

সব মিলিয়ে প্রাথমিকভাবে ৫০ বিলিয়ন ডলার বিনিয়োগ করতে চায় সৌদি আরব।

সৌদি বিনিয়োগ প্রস্তাব নিয়ে সে দেশের ব্যবসায়ী প্রতিনিধিদলের বাংলাদেশ সফরকে যুগান্তকারী বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন অর্থমন্ত্রী আবুল মাল আব্দুল মুহিত।

this is not even close to cpec.
this is just investment, while cpec is preparation of infrastructural ground for real investment.
cpec will help bring investments on future which will be many folds more than this 50 billion dollars. in fact cpec itself is a total of 150+billion dollar projects with just initial phase completed.
