The Bengal region is quite different from India and Pakistan and especially the northern parts of the subcontinent....


We have a had an independent Bengali nation for centuries, what applies to us cannot be used a blanket argument to discredit my point about Kashmir.




The separation of Pakistan and Bangladesh has many nuanced factors.... Maybe the union could've even lasted had it not been for the political debacle and the racist approach of some westerners.

Heck majority of freedom fighters during indian independence struggle came from West Bengal (including the greatest of them all Netaji Subhash who rightly deserve the title father of India and not gandhi) and they weren't fighting for independent bengal. The force which netaji commanded was called Azad Hind fauj.

Why would they fight for independent Bengal ?


That dream died in 1905, brahmins didn't want peace and equality in Bengal.




After 1905, Hindu Bengalis aligned themselves with the concept of a future Hindu India, while Bengali nationalism continued to live on with Muslim Bengalis, finally achieving its goal in 71.





If anything, pre 47, the average Hindu Bengali or Ghoti was more religious than the average Bengali Muslim.



The religious quarter in Bangladesh only came into existence post the 80s reign of general Ershad.



Even now, religion is more important to the average WB person than it is to a Bangladeshi, seeing as they let the dream of Bengal die for India.
