The bigger liberation for me is knowing that one can hold any opinion or judgement.. that is a right one should have.. but that right is only to be practised within oneself.
For e.g. I am a firm believer in the finality of the Prophet and do not accept anyone else who dares to question it as from belief. However, that judgement is left onto god.. both on the person in question.. and my own judgement. I can state that, but to pass punishment is not my domain. The funny thing is, the supreme human being in question for whom these blasphemy laws have been created, forgave the worst of his detractors??
The basic issue is the social disruption that blasphemy causes in a generally uneducated society.. to tackle that , the best approach is not to publicise the issue.. but to remove the irritant. That is all the original practice of these laws were supposed to do. instead of being used for political gains.
To compare the actions of Caliph Abu Bakr against False Prophets to say the action needed against a single person abusing God and Prophet is idiocy.
