Depends on the type of mistake even our sons do. He is representing Pakistan, a captain, and he is a role model. Consider. Out of 180 million, he is the one representing Pakistan, leading it.
Azaruddin, Hanse Cronje were banned for life, with their records. They were captains. And they deserved it. And so is Butt.

Asif is repeat offender and salman butt was experienced cricketer and was given the responsibility of captain so he exactly knew what he was doing and in fact arranged all these meeting with match fixer and trapped young amir into this match fixing

amir was naive teenage who just got the exposure of international cricketer so he got the benefit of doubt..also he accepted his mistake and made apology unlike others two who kept fooling public that they were not involved

amir is still young and fit so he can play many years while butt will need plenty of time to get back in form and also his batting record is average so no place for butt and asif

It actually matter because Salman butt was captain of a team who led young 18 year old amir to fall prey to corrupt activity. Salman was the captain and organiser of all this match fixing event. Salman Butt continued this façade of innocence for nearly five years even after currency notes were recovered from his room. He finally succumbed to confessing after losing their appeals and after ICC's chief executive asked them to admit their wrong doings and cooperate with the ICCs anti corruption and security unit (ACSU). I am sorry now because now i do see apology more favourable than a lie

Boht asif and Salman are over 30 year old now while amir still can play for many years and salman butt was not extra ordinary cricketer that his entry in Pakistan team will bring any extra ordinary results..He is avarge batsman just like many others in present team and it will be injustice for them to replace them with Salman butt even when he did not played any cricket from last 5/6 years
