Sagem, OIS-AT To Co-Produce AASM Hammer In India
- A +

Sagem (Safran) has selected OIS Advanced Technology (OIS-AT) as the Indian Manufacturer of its AASM Hammer Bomb Guidance and Glide Kit.

Under the agreement, the two companies have entered into Joint Venture collaboration for manufacturing the weapon system in India.

Considered to be the most advanced, precision Bomb Guidance and Range Extension kit, the AASM Hammer originally designed and manufactured by Sagem for the requirements of the French Air-Force and Navy on-board the Rafale aircraft, is intended to cater to requirements of the Indian Air Force’s high precision munition requirements. The AASM Hammer has been extensively proven in combat, and the version that will be manufactured in India will be customized to specifically exceed Indian Air Force requirements.

“We are pleased that Sagem is collaborating with us with their combat proven, world leading, high precision munitions guidance and range extension kit. With its impressive list of advanced features, Sagem’s AASM Hammer is the foundation for our joint venture to specifically cater to the requirements of the Indian Air Force under the government’s Make In India program. This collaboration further endorses our corporate strategy of becoming the Industrial Partner of Choice for leading global companies”, said Sanjay Bhandari, Chairman and Managing Director of OIS Advanced Technology.

“We are pleased to collaborate with OIS-AT with our combat proven, high precision, AASM Hammer Guidance and Range Extension kit for aerial munitions for the Indian Air Force. With OIS-AT we have a partner with a core focus and appreciation of advanced technologies and innovation to advance our joint interests for the Indian Air Force”, said Martin Sion, CEO of Sagem.

According to French Senate's Comité des Prix de Revient des fabrications d'Armement (CPRA) cited by the daily La Tribune, the total cost of the AASM program including development costs and the delivery of 2348 kits is €846m.[9] On that basis the per-weapon cost is $300,000 or twelve times the cost of the comparable American JDAM, although the latter has been manufactured in much larger quantities (~250,000 kits) and would be reasonable to expect a drastic reduction of the price of the French munition if larger contracts are signed and economies of scale are achieved.[10]

The 2012 defence budget presented to the Senate reported the project had cost €592.2m (~US$800m) with a unit cost of €164,000, or €252,000 including development costs.[1]

So it's going to get reduced further ..
200,000 approx 8 times cost of jdam ?

Well I don't know it is mentioned on Wikipedia(with source) & we know information on wikipedia is generally right if it's not about Pakistan where on Pakistan Navy page PN will have an indigenous nuclear submarine by 2018.
Also French systems are generally expensive.

It's even worse than that Sathya! Our friend is cheating pure and simple ... by accident no doubt!

He just compared a program cost : all that was ever spent so the munition exists on the market
with a unit cost : either catalog sale or one time production value. That's disingenuous.

Here is the difference only for the JDAM so you people can compare :

Price/Unit Cost:
The unit cost of a basic JDAM tailkit is $27,000, while the cost of the Laser JDAM tailkit is $42,000 (in FY 2015).

Total Cost - Life of Program (LoP):
The total procurement cost of the JDAM program is $6.63 billion (estimated by the DoD) + $0.60 billion in research and development (RDT&E) funds, which means the total estimated program cost is $7.23 billion (numbers are aggregated annual funds spent over the life of the program and no price/inflation adjustment was made).
