SAARC satellite India’s counter to other players entering region

Yes. It's free. It's mentioned as a gift to SAARC from India.
SAARC satellite is not ready but when launched in 2018, it might be based on ISRO new gen architecture architecture. Example GSAT 11. This one satellite will have 5.5times capacity of BBangabandhu and also much higher speed and band coverage.

You still dont get it do you?

BANGLADESH is already CONTRACTED TO PURCHASE ITS OWN SATELLITE and is FULLY COMMITTED to running its own sat. Your SAARC sat could have a 1000 times the capacity of BD-1 but it would make no difference, our new satellite will give us more then enough capacity for the next 15 years.

From the end of 2017 we will not need the SAARC sat, or any other comm sat services provider until 2033 (by which time a replacement will be available). The whole reason to buying our own sat is to be indepentdent of others, understand?

Modis goal (as it says in the article) is trying to tie us to indias strategic interests and stear us away from china/us. ITS NOT IN OUR INTEREST TO BE DEPENDENT ON INDIA.

.
The dispute can not be settled with the neighbors who do not want to settle the dispute. You try to improve the relations, they will cut your soldiers head.
Good luck selling your system to Second largest populated country of SE .Then stop tearing croc`s tear that Indian`s neighbor`s are looking for other countries for Satelites .

. . .
Give india a contract. You will not get better satellite at a cost and quality which India can provides.
Should have spoke to BRTC and their consultantants SPI.....too late now. The consultative phase is nearing close, system requirements done, BRTC will soon announce the final assembler. Launch tender just released....BD will have its own sat by Dec 2017.

Thats not realistic. A better and free service... no one can ignore. May be BD will use both for different purposes.

What's not realistic? Bangladesh HAS effectively ignored indias satellite offer. BD government has specifically said From 2018 ALL satellite communication will be provided via the BD-1, that's why its budgeted taka 3000 crore.

Use both for different purposes? Are you dumb? Both are communication satellites, that's all they do. There are no other purpose to them.

India only offered to build and launch the SAARC satellite because china is assisting other countries to take control of their own communication network. The Bangladeshi government wants to own its entire communication system, and not be reliant on any foreign controlled system. Plus why pay for 2 of the same thing?

too little too late....pakistan, Sri lanka and Bangladesh are building and launching their own comm sats. You could offer it to nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives....

.
For this to ever happen ,India needs to settle all disputes with its neighbor`s and also realize sovereignty and learn to co exist with all other wise smaller countries will move towards balancing of power

The SAARC satellite isn't exactly mandatory for all you know.

The offer is on the table.

Since you are keen on developing own system, your call.

You guys are obsessed with toilets, can I ask why? Is India without issues (is any nation?)? No. Is India tackling these issues? Of course.

Have I brought up per capita income and HDI of BD? Grow up.
please avoid quoting an inappropriate post, even when it is deleted it lives on in a quote, just report it as someone did
thanks

This topic has already been discussed, Bangladesh has already contracted to build and deploy from the xichang launch centre, the Bangabandhu-1 communication satellite with the help of a private US supplier for $410m by the end of 2017. The slot at 119° has already been allocated, and SPARRSO will have everything in place to manage the 40+ transponder sat. The new Bangladeshi satellite will give Bangladesh full coverage for 15 years, with additional capacity for growth and lease capacity too.

The proposed SAARC satellite will only be duplicating what we already will have from 2017, and as the main reason of getting our own satellite system was to not rely on others for services, what advantage will the SAARC sat give?

let me ask you,is bangabandhu(Satellite) going to provide you meteorological data??education??tele-medicine?? disaster response??resource management?? weather forecasting??

you don't understand what redundant means..by the way, here is your Bangabandhu's status.....

Int’l Tender floated, anticipated launch in late 2017 | Dhaka Tribune

Dec 2017...SAARC sat will be up by Dec 2016.

Please show me a OFFICIAL indian government confirmation that the proposed SAARC satellite will be a meteorological / weather satellite, not just some random newspaper reports. The proposal mentions ONLY communication satellite, with similar function to BD-1, further more the BRTC / Bangladesh government has shown no interest in the proposal at all, even as a backup function sat. Right now our efforts are to develop our own capacity.

But please go ahead and launch your SAARC sat, just don't expect BRTC to be too interested.

The thing is this topic was discussed sometime ago. At that time I asked BRTC officials about this proposal, if they were planning to take this offer up? The answer was no, because:

1. BRTC was already too far down in their planning to establish the BD-1
2. Accepting the SAARC proposal would make it difficult to justify spending almost $1/2b on BD-1
3. The BD-1 project is more about having fully BD controlled system (the SAARC satellite would essentially be going back to relying on india).

The Bangladeshi gov position is, thank you for the offer and it is a welcome initiative. However Bangladesh is not able to fully participate due to our ongoing project.

Singapore's first satellite was launched by India. Further, Singapore is planning to send 7 satellites to space with help of India.

Bangladesh satellite costed half a billion dollar :O . Even Maven costed less than half a billion dollar :O

OMFG!! What type of satellite is it??

The budget is Taka 3000 crore which equate to somewhat under $1/2b. It's not just for the sat, but includes launch cost, construction of a number of base stations, consultancy, training and support plus running costs.

Well when ever their is unbalance power`s there will be room for some one to stand up like China standing up against US for you even Pak is enough ,Yes I do agree China and US will always their to fill gaps as true power`s does ,India needs to understand ,India is developing but still very far away from China and light years from US just try to absorb the fact .

Agreed but it has even more problem then all Saarc it self like Independent movement`s, Social discrimination ,in toleration towards other religion ,For you to say that you guys are superior in science Naaaaaa !!! seriously (don't count JV projects Now). Yes Indian`s are always and will remain smart business man that is true.

In the end India has to settle territorial disputes ,settles religion intolerance specially from badmash hindu`s, and try not to play with fire byu doing proxies in Sri Lanka,Afghanistan ,Pakistan and Bangladesh

India think that it's a class above its neighbors. A superiority complex. It think that it's neighbors would bow down to India. But they lol just give India a middle finger. This forum say it all.

According to NASA, Mars Scout missions target a cost of less than US$485 million, not including launch services, which cost approximately $187 million. The total project costs up to $671 million. So NASA spent 671 Million dollars to send a satellite to MARS.

Are you sure about that cost for a communication satellite. :O?? I'm totally surprised by ur quote, can you provide me with some links regarding Bangladesh satellite program. I really want to read about it now :) . Google didn't help me in it :)

How many 0's does a crore have in Bangladesh taka??
