Saab made this presentation to the Indian Navy on September 6 in Goa during the INS Hansa golden jubilee event. This is exclusive to Livefist.

Poor Saab, their car section is bankrupt anyway, their used Saab 2000 MPAs, or Gripens are seelling, although they are offered for low costs and from any competition they hear that the Gripen is technically inferior to Rafale, or EF (especially the radar), which results in no export orders as well.
The only straw they see is this varient, which was not requested by IN (Saab asked to join, after an RFI was sent to other manufacturers), not by any other potential operator, which are less than they show in their presentation, because the Sea Gripen can't be used like Harriers from LHDs, but only from STOBAR and CATOBAR carriers.

Firstly the IN's RFI was for its ACCs not LHD/LPD so it is irrelevant that the SeaGripen can't be used on these platforms. And the RFIs were sent to Boeing (F-18 SH) Dassualt (Rafele), EADs (EFT), LM (F-35) which can't be used in LHD/LPD anyway. Anyway I think it is a shrewd move by SAAB to offer the Gripen in both CATOBAR and STOBAR compatible options, the only fighter in the competion able to do so (CATOBAR-F-18/Rafele-M/F-35C, STOBAR- N-EFT/F-35B) and I don't know how they've done it as EADs have stated explicitly that they can't make the EFT CATOBAR compatible due to weight considerations and the F-35 needs MAJOR modifications- in fact the two naval configurations (C/B) have VERY different airframes. If selected the IN could operate SQDs capable of operating of ALL ACCs in their fleet, cutting down on logistical issues.

I'm not sure just how interested IN will be though as they are after more of an air-superiority fighter with longer "legs" and greater payload. They also are, reportedly, very interested in the F-35.

Why will India Acquire SAAB Sea Gripen
From what i know Sea Gripen will Have lower MAX takeoff weight in STOBAR Configuration than land based version ie 12500 Kgs against 16500 Kgs ,That translates into Payload of 3500 Kgs and fuel of 2000 Kgs
Giving a range of 1500 Km , which is about the same as our Mig29Ks , which by the way can carry 5500 Kgs of Payload
While In CATOBAR Rafale M , F/A18 E/F and F35C Boast of Higher Range and Payload

Infact only Reason to buy Gripen is if Tejas N fails and we require another STOBAR aircraft
considering the fact that Tejas N is based on Tejas MK2 which will have the same Engine as Gripen NG/Sea Gripen
Tejas N TOO HAS A MAX TAKEOFF WEIGHT OF 12500 Kgs with Payload of 3500 Kgs and fuel of 1800 Kgs, these specs are virtually identical to Sea Gripen
Indian Navy has Placed an initial order for 6 Tejas N to be delivered by 2016 with option for 40 More aircraft should they be satisfied with it
This order for 40 aircraft s will only go to Sea Gripen or Sea Typhoon if IN rejects Tejas N , in such a case Indian Navy is likely to order just 14-16 More Tejas N to Form a full sqd of Tejas N along with 6 aircraft already inducted by 2015-16
For carrying out the role of Policing our EEZ and anti shipping operations and for Replacing Jaguar IM in that role

Nice presentaation. But its still a paper plane.
