SAAB offers air defence system to Indian Army - Hindustan Times

Swedish defence major Saab on Thursday said it is offering its RBS 70NG man-portable air defence system to the Indian Army for its requirements for shoulder fired missiles. "The RBS 70 NG is a contender for procurement of Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORAD) manportable air defence
(MANPAD) missile for Indian Army," Saab said in a release in New Delhi.

The Indian Army at present uses the Russian origin Igla missile systems and is looking for its replacements. It had recently issued a Request for Information (RFI) in this regard and is expected to issue a formal tender very soon.

"We believe the RBS 70NG meets requirements of Indian Army for a system that has multiple target seeking and tracking capabilities, multi-launcher capability, ability to deploy from high mobility vehicles and ship and submarine naval vessels and aerial target detection capability", Saab India head Inderjit Sial said.

Saab said the RBS 70NG has been equipped with "a new sighting system, improved precision and increased all-target capability." The company claims the RBS 70NG has an effective intercept range of 8 km, with altitude coverage in excess of 5 km.

.
its same systems which pakistan using from ages am i right ?

. .
Unfortunately for SAAB I see little hope for them here as well cause If we want a laser guided version then we should go for the starstreak - it fires 3 sub munitions with each missile thus increasing chances of a hit but if we want an infrared homing missile then the igla-s should be good as we are already using the igla so training costs/logistical costs etc will be less.

This system was unveiled just 2 days ago. Come on man!!!!

RBS 70NG?

nope dear its upgraded version of rbs-70 which is in service since 1977 .but sure upgraded is better then older versions .

The RBS 70 NG utilises state-of-the-art components and technology to provide a highly integrated, modular air defence system.

See everything - miss nothing

The core of RBS 70 NG is the new generation sight module:

Integrated high resolution thermal imager allows for 24/7 capability.
Advanced cueing improves reaction times and target acquisition.
Auto-tracker assists the gunner during engagement, increasing the hit probability throughout the missile range.
Improved guidance further increases system performance both for manual and auto-tracker engagements.
Built-in video records for after-action review.

We’ve been expecting you

With its modular concept and state-of-the-art technology the RBS 70 NG provides a highly flexible, scalable and long term solution to evolving GBAD requirements.

The NG sight has been specifically designed for a high degree of flexibility and modularity: in addition to the Man-Portable Air Defence System (MANPADS) configuration, the same NG sight unit can be used in remote-controlled or vehicle applications.

The modular design of the NG sight allows for integration into an almost unlimited number of vehicle types and for network integration and remote control.

Make every shot count

The RBS 70 NG’s modular design allows it to reuse all existing generations of RBS 70 missiles up to the new BOLIDE 4th generation all-target VSHORAD missile.

With the BOLIDE missile the RBS 70 NG aims at the complete threat spectrum from fixed and rotary wing aircraft down to small targets such as cruise missiles and UAVs, out to a range of 8 kilometres and with altitude coverage in excess of 5,000 metres.

The combined shaped-charge and pre-fragmented warhead makes the system uniquely capable of defeating armoured air targets such as attack helicopters and CAS aircraft as well as armoured ground targets like APCs.

Efficient training possibilities

The RBS 70 NG employs a training concept from basic operator training up to co-operative training for the complete air defence unit.

The RBS 70 NG reduces training time on the engagement procedures to a few hours. The classroom training simulator incorporates operator drills to perform training of all necessary operator skills such as target acquisition, identification, target tracking, weapon launch and guidance.

Outdoor training is performed with the system, supported by a recording function for after action review.

The RBS 70 NG air defence system features an improved sighting system.

The combination of features in the sighting system mean that it can see everything – it can pick up all targets, day and night.

Every mission is different. The RBS70 NG offers superior flexibility when it comes to operational deployment and the ability to successfully engage a wide range of targets.

So what did I say? Isnt it still the very different system that you use??? Hey come one If in that case everyone uses a just upgraded version of the right brother aircraft.

.
its just me or pakistanis live in totally diff world ?:undecided:

its only you lolz the deal is same is F-16IN so i was right its RBS-70 but upgraded version .i think you need to search abut pakistan air defense forces mate .

.
The missile , guidance is based on the RBS70.. or one can say sits on the same chassis.. but the internal's are totally different.
NG stands for Next generation.. digital components vs analog dinosaurs.

Operational advantage you have it coz you been operating, but when it comes to operational ability the NG stands apart.

Is its about pakistan???????????

How the hell we care what pakistan uses or not, its a thread about something is offered to India it dosen't means that India is buying it.

BECAUSE it will be indian as always ok bye dear .;)

1) These pics are from the site of Atlantique's grave. A missile ( was it RBS-70 ?) was fired on the IAF Mi-17 helicopter ferrying press correspondents. The piolt too steep dive, creating mayhem inside, but saving the helicopter.
If this can not hit even a helicopter, then we don't want it.

2 ) RBS70NG does not look Man portable. Should be rejected.
