actually there was a lot of pressure due to crimean tatars and ottomans on chehnya,circassia. Both were pagan religion followers. Therein lies the catch. If it was the Ottomans pressurizing the Chechens to accept Islam, Chechnya would have naturally allied itself with the Russian Empire. But that was not to be.

And why would a change in religion make the Chechens sworn enemies of Russian empire? Russia already had Astrakhans and Tatars who'd been subjugated and they've not raised any rebellion against Russia.
