European countries can laugh at it all they want.

But the facts are the mightiest of the world's navy has no AC, and their helicopter carrier will be phased out because they don't have enough ships to protect it and the 2 additional Queen Elizabeth ACs being finalized.

Other carriers in NATO, Spanish(decommissioned) & Italian's 8 Harrier capability pale to this accident prone AC.

This battle group has as much firepower as entire navies in Europe.

If that were true it wouldn't have gotten as much publicity. Iranian tincans and the Chinese navy sail around US waters and get a paragraph in Fox News or CNN.

This AC group can barely carry out a sustained mission but everyone felt the need to offer it full time news coverage because it might have stopped off the shores of Brussels and taken over the EU.

It got the publicity because of the smoke mainly and a little bit to fuel the fear mongering too, i'd say Russia can push its interests mainly because of rift between EU members like Germany being quite pro Russia while UK for exsample not so much so they cant really take action against it.
Another one is the incredibly passive US goverment whose red lines are being crossed even by a war torn country like Syria, i dont think Russia would have as much free hand as now if there was a cold war era goverment in US.

The Red Lines de-weaponized Syria's NBC weapons programs. Sure there might still be some canisters left. But the potential of a genocidal war crimes, by NBCs, is much lower.

The Russians are entrenched, any action by the US/NATO will result in massive causalities from the Russians and Assad's forces.

Aleppo isn't going to be a Red Line until the "FSA" distances itself from the "Islamist" terrorists.

The EU is economically intertwined with Russia, German is one of Russia's largest partners these sanctions are hurting both-sides. Winter is coming to the EU, there aren't enough alternative fuel sources when Russia is taken out of the equation. And the potential OPEC freeze will keep Iranian oil out for a while, not to mention Russian muscle scaring away any potential competitors from entering.
