It is probably for abroad operations where it is easier to find Toyota parts than UAZ.

We have a one track mind about armored carriers. In an urban setting, if you want anonimity, a civilian vehicle is a very good choice. Same is true for remote areas as well if you are being seaarched by enemy satellites and drones. Armored military vehicles would stand out like a sore thumb.

Unless your from a really tough neighbourhood the machine gun on the back might stand out a bit.

Armoured vehicle might stand out like a sore thumb but on the plus side a drone operator is going to pass it up the line before putting a hellfire into a BRT-80 and causing an international incident, armed hi lux screams mujahedeen

BTW can some one translate the what is on the side of the truck?

Well that Makes Sense. Toyota Hilux is Street Car in Whole of middle East and Asia. Parts available everywhere

this is probably in response to lessons learned in Syria.

Russia is investing is serious military equipment. no way they will cheap out on their special forces. Id be fascinating to see what type of tactics they have developed.

fast moving technical have proven succesfull repeatedly by various forces (especially daesh) to be very effective in certain battle conditions

Tachanka's were heavily used during the Civil War in Russia in 1918-1921. It was Maxim machine gun on the wain. It was a symbol of the Civil War. Here in Ukraine we even have tachanka monument.
