Russian special forces are getting commercial Toyota Hilux and will showcase its new light pickup trucks at the Victory Day parade in Tula on 9 May.

A modified commercial standard Toyota Hilux double cab pickups paraded through the streets of Moscow on Wednesday as the country geared up for its annual Victory Day parade. A photo posted on the social network shows the light pickup trucks painted in desert tan during the rehearsal for 9 May 2019 Victory Day Military Parade.

The event celebrates the 74th anniversary of the World War II victory over Nazi Germany and has been a staple of Soviet and Russian pride since the conflict ended.

According to the current information, Russian special forces have purchased hundreds of modified commercial pickups and sport utility vehicles over the last three years for use in local conflicts.

Some of these vehicles already were spotted in Syria.

Designed to use as a commercial 4×4 vehicle, the Toyota Hilux due to its reliability, durability and off-road performance it is widely used by various military and paramilitary units, non-governmental organizations and militant groups from all over the world.

Pickup trucks’ mobility makes them ideal for local wars. Four-wheel-drives can tackle almost any terrain. Light trucks don’t weigh much, allowing them to cross weak bridges and fragile roads that would be impassable to armored vehicles weighing tens of tons.

Wow, it feels a step backwards...

We have a one track mind about armored carriers. In an urban setting, if you want anonimity, a civilian vehicle is a very good choice. Same is true for remote areas as well if you are being seaarched by enemy satellites and drones. Armored military vehicles would stand out like a sore thumb.

So will they not be using uniforms? If they wear uniforms they will still be visible and stick out... I don't think satellites can monitor such movements inside a city.

Goof step from Russians. Ultra Light Motorized Infantry units. The Largest Contributor to ISIS Success in Battle.
However Toyota Hilux? So Russia cannot even produce its own Technical now?
That doesn't feel right. Russia is supposed to be exporter of such low level tech.

Everyone on planet earth facing difficulty to match Toyota Hilux/Land Cruiser 's reliability and cost effectiveness. Ask Ford motors, they knows it better than anyone.

Germans use Valkswagen and Mercedes Transport vehicles, French use Renault and License Built Ford Rangers, Brits have Land Rover. So for Russia why not go for home made UAZ Patriot Based Technical instead of Japanese one.

. . . . . .
You can ask the Chadians who defeated Gaddafi in the late 80s with just Toyotas only
Saudis use delicious beautiful Toyota Land cruiser jeeps...them ishes is FIRE! lol. They just look so strong and sturdy. Protection of forces using these Hilux and Land cruisers seems weak. Turkish Otokar's Cobra AFV/APC looks like a solid middle ground between these 2. HIlux do have good militarty value though regardless. Iran and Pakistan use Hiluxes alot i believe.
