Transmissions in Russian from what appears to be a Russian (mini) submarine in distress was detected last Thursday, and signal analysis showed the location to right in the middle of the archipelago of Stockholm (Stockholms skärgård), well within the Swedish territorial waters (Kanholmsfjärden)
The radio channels used are those used by the Russian Navy for emergencies.
Visual detection occured last Friday, after which the Swedish Navy started a search operation, which
Is beeing stepped up.

The transmission was resumed later, this time encrypted and a series of messages were exchanged
with a radio station in Kaliningrad, a major base for the Russian Navy in the Baltic Sea.

A Russian Oil Tanker (out-flagged to Liberia) NS Concord is believed to be the mothership,
and while the official destination is Denmark, has hovered right outside the border for days,
and turned East when Swedish Newspapers started to give attention.

Who cares.
Obviously a Chinese guy is more concerned with how the Chinese Government is repressing democracy
in Hong-Kong...

Think Putin will care if a sub is lost, and that's good enough for me.

NS Concord just turned off its transponder.
That is really admitting that they have bad intentions...

STOCKHOLM, October 3. /TASS/. Russia has filed a lawsuit at a Stockholm district court, protesting against illegal sale of a residential block belonging to the Russian Trade Mission in Sweden,a source from the court department in charge of land ownership disputes told TASS.

Lawyers for the Russian mission have challenged the sale of the building which was put under the hammer on September 12 and sold for €1.4 million.

It was the third consecutive auction held to sell the residential block of the Russian Trade Mission claimed by German businessman Franz Sedelmayer, who demanded around €5 million in compensation from Russia for financial losses he had suffered in St. Petersburg when he attempted to go into business there in the 1990s.

"The Russian side does not recognize as legitimate the conduct of the bailiff service which acted, citing a resolution passed by the Swedish Supreme Court in 2011 in favor of German businessman Franz Sedelmayer. It neither recognizes the legitimacy of the Swedish district court resolution adopted in violation of Russia 's right to its real estate that has a diplomatic status which had earlier been confirmed by the Swedish Foreign Ministry", the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Is it possible to fire an EMP underwater?

Conductive materials such as water are not going to be an effective medium for an EMP. It's possible, but instead of the effects we think of in regards to land-based or air-born EMPs, effects such as the downing of electronics on a massive scale, an underwater EMP will dissipate too quickly and the energy cannot be focused as the water's conductivity will spread it in an amorphous pattern. It makes for good movie material, but in real life such a scenario is fiction.

Russia are of course free to file complaints in court.
Whether they win is another question.

If you are sure that the submarine is out there - why you can not find it?
I have little faith in this story. Most likely another newspaper "sensation", designed to heat russophobia in Europe. Another horror story for European inhabitants to read newspapers and froze with horror - "These bloodthirsty Russian is about to take Stockholm!!! Who's next? We need to call good Americans, they just plan to bring democracy to the next African / Asian / Latin American country. Perhaps they will find some time and save us!!! "

Well, they might have SIGINT or ELINT indicating a sub was likely in the area, but the search has been going on for three days. If something ran aground again, then it would be easier to find, but a sub in distress (as is being reported) isn't necessarily a sign that it's in danger or not working. It could have offered a distress signal, but kept on moving. Three days is enough time to get very, very far from one's current location.

Someone managed to get a photo of the vessel this morning.
Although it could not be identified because of the distance, It was still there.

I haven't seen or heard of that. Do you have a link? If this is true I would love for our Swedish friends to rub it in the face of the Russians.
