In August 1945, the USSR suddenly attacked Japanese-occupied Manchuria in Northern China. The huge operation would be the last battle of WWII.

Interesting but little known fact, when the Russians withdrew from Manchuria they ransacked the place took everything including railroad tie as the last train departed for Russia. Fortunately the Chinese didn't have any washing machines back then...

Manchuria was not part of China until after Communist invasion.
