Two mechanized infantry divisions formed in Western Military District - Shoigu

MOSCOW. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The formation of two mechanized infantry divisions with units based in the Belgorod, Voronezh and Smolensk regions has been completed, Russian Defense Minister Gen. of the Army Sergei Shoigu told senior defense officials on Tuesday.

"First let us see how the Russian president's decisions are being implemented to improve the combat composition of the troops on the Western strategic direction. This year, the Western Military District carried out some 100 organizational measures, including the completion of the formation of two mechanized infantry divisions whose units were deployed in the Belgorod, Voronezh and Smolensk regions," Shoigu said.

"The divisions have been fully manned with personnel, where over 70 per cent are contractors, and also modern weapons, military and special equipment," the minister said. "The required materiel reserves have been created. The new bases provide necessary living conditions for the personnel. Thirty essential facilities have been built and reconstructed: barracks, canteens, services. These are due to be fully equipped in the first half of 2017," the minister said.

As regards combat training, facilities have been created for small-arms and grenade firing drills, as well as fighting-vehicle and driving practice, he said.

MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. Newest weapons and military hardware, already supplied or yet to be delivered to more than 80 military units have considerably enhanced the combat potential of Russia’s Central Military District, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has said.

"In all, more than 80 units will receive advanced weaponry and military hardware," Shoigu said at a meeting of the Defense Ministry’s board.

The delivery of new weapon systems was synchronized with the training of specialists and the creation of military infrastructure.

"In all, the implementation of the plan for 2016 allowed for considerably building up the combat potential of Central Military District forces, required to cope with their tasks," Shoigu said.

He recalled that on November 11 a brigade set of Iskander tactical missile systems was handed over to the personnel of the Central Military District at the Kapustin Yar proving ground on November 11.

Two advanced heavy armored vehicles designed for the Russian defense and law enforcement agencies recently underwent trials at a testing range near Moscow. Two new 'Patrol' armored vehicles, designed for the Russian Interior and Defense ministries took part in a series of field tests in the Moscow Region on Thursday, December 1.

'Patrol' is a 12-tonne Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle designed for transporting personnel and equipment across rough terrain and hostile areas. Developed by Asteis, the vehicle is based on the chassis of Kamaz – a brand of Russian trucks known throughout the world for their unparalleled off-road capability, reliability and rugged efficiency.

Sergei Ivanov, Asteis’ Test Department Chief, told Ruptly that while many of the vehicle’s technical characteristics remain classified, he can confirm that Patrol will withstand a blast of explosive device with a yield of up to 6 kilograms of TNT. Furthermore, the vehicle can operate in under extreme temperatures ranging from minus 50 to plus 50 degrees Celsius, as well as in high altitude areas of up to 4,000 meters above the sea level.

The vehicle can be employed in a wide variety of combat situations, including urban warfare. It can transport up to 10 passengers (including driver) or up to 1,500 kilograms of cargo, and can also be fitted with a weapon module to provide limited infantry support.
