Exercises and other things have been going on for long between Russia and Pakistan.
We really need to elevate our status as allies. I don't really like Russian equipment, but their air defense systems and guns are really good.
The problem with much today Russian equipment is, that most of it (now and here available, not future stuff/prototypes/maybe possbile/only for export etc.) is upgraded Soviet large army doctrincal warfare stuff.
For the "Fulda Gap" it was perfectly fine, after Soviet Doctrine.
The Tanks were, except more or less no good elevation and reverse gear and night-fighting optics, very fine.
T-80UK was again a different thing with passive active system Shtora and better optics.
Take the year 1987, the MBT's in Soviet Tier 1 Divisions would be the T-72B obrig. 1985 wich had even without Kontakt-1 ERA better armour than T-80B ... and the classical T-80U.
T-72B with K-1 ERA (was usually always on them when they rolled out of the fabric) was on some places not penetrable by the M829 from M1A1. M1A1 got 1989 (in some sources - 1988) the M829A1.
T-80U was a VERY fine tank with Kontakt-5. Sure, after one hit on it's ERA the place was messed up and 2nd shot would go through but yes ... only lower hull would guarantee a 1st shot-kill from a M1A1 from 1987.
Many things were amphibious (tactical mobility) but logical weakly armoured because of that...
Look at the Yanks.
M998 Humvee and later M1025 were good for what they were constructed (doctrine) but then they took them out of their role and only problems then.
Or the Stryker ... a driving illness. Need to uparmored these already obsolete vehicle in 2002 but the chassis had massive problems then.
You need stuff which fits your doctrine and don't try to convert a pig to a cow, it WON'T work properly.
