Russia urges India to line up behind China’s Belt and Road initiative (CPEC): i.e. get in line!

And that makes it OK to let a 3rd party build in a "disputed" territory? Do you even realize you are actually supporting my argument?

I repeat - India really doesn't care what you let Chinese build in your own territory. But India's opposition is for CPEC passing through any part of J&K claimed by India. Partitioning that territory and renaming it to something else, makes no difference on the ground!
Stop bulshitting here.

I am not supporting your argument. UN says Kashmir is disputed territory. End of discussion here.

We have heard it all before, but let's consider the other angle here. Do you see the irony on display when the group that's most concerned about "CPEC entrapment" is you lot, considering that Indian media absolutely despises Pakistan and your leadership openly stated they will target Balochistan and oppose CPEC? Why is no other "saner" country accusing China of this alleged entrapment?

Its obvious that you have a bigger concern than Pakistan being entrapped by China. Which is that CPEC might actually work as intended. Its rather ridiculous that you can't come out and state the obvious.

Indians warning Pakistan about CPEC? Mmm that is positive for CPEC. When a friend warns you - take notice. When a enemy warns you - take that as your doing something right.

Let me break it down.

1. For India, if not the Pak PM, it is very much in Indian interests if the Pak Army Chief starts saluting the CCP Chairman in due time. We know that democracy has completely failed in Pakistan. So anything that weakens the army's hold over their own country is welcome by India.

2. But facts are facts, it doesn't change the ground situation that CPEC is significantly unfair to Pakistan.

If, one day, we in India are told that a country like the US or Japan will be buying huge tracts of farmland and a city or two and then populating it with Americans or Japanese, there will be a severe political backlash from the people in India. This is the normal reaction. But you lot in Pakistan have been brainwashed into thinking this setup is all fine. The general Pakistani reaction to CPEC is in fact extremely abnormal.

Also you misjudge India's position. We are not 'warning' you, we are 'telling' you what's in store because we have a free press and our experts can express their opinions freely. Otoh, your scholars have been completely shut out of the media limelight. So all you get is controlled information. We have zero interest in warning you.

3. As for CPEC itself, India is reacting to what is essentially a challenge by China. They have crossed into what we consider to be disputed territory, so we will obviously react to it that way. This has nothing to do with the business aspects of the deal. For India, the transit through disputed territory and the strong possibility of Gwadar having significant Chinese military presence is a security threat to India. If you notice, the Indian govt has only reacted to CPEC from a strategic PoV, they have shown zero interest in the business aspects. So the Indian govt's reaction is normal, which takes you back to point 1.

To sum it up--
Point 1 = China-Pak politics >> Indian govt has not commented on this.
Point 2 = China-Pak business >> Indian govt has not commented on this.
Point 3 = China-India politics >> Indian govt has commented on this.

So Point 1 is in India's interest. Point 2 can lead to Point 1.
Point 3 has nothing to do with either Point 1 or 2.

To solve the problem that arises with Point 3, the Chinese have proposed to change the name of the project, and then reroute it through India. That's their proposition. We are yet to see how the Indian govt will react to it. So, you see, not everything is black and white. India supports Point 2, not Point 3.

Here's more from the horse's mouth.
http://www.news18.com/news/india/su...-be-open-equitable-india-on-obor-1559705.html
“India’s position on the issue is well-known. Though India supports connectivity, it has to be open and equitable,” External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.

I hope this makes India's stand clearer.

In fact, the Indian industry has shown interest in investing in Pakistan. As long as Point 3 is taken care of, the Chinese will open up the Pakistani economy for Indian investment.

@Nilgiri
What do you think about CPEC?

What do you think about CPEC?

Its complicated. Neither all good, neither all bad as of now. I have largely given up discussing it overall in any depth because much actually has to be realised esp since all kind of layers are being wrapped into it (and no way to really tell whats what)...and thus people accuse this and that when you pose even hypotheticals. So let it materialise I say and judge results closer to that.

Exactly my approach. I am willing to wait and see actual results develop rather than trying to counter the hype at this stage.

CPEC holds nothing for India, lets be honest.
However a similar corridor can be build involving Pakistan , India , Iran/ Afghanistan. Pakistan should also give access to India to Afghanistan, Iran and central Asian states. This will not only increase the economic activity among the arch neighbors but would also bring stability in south Asia.
That will only happen when CPEC becomes a success.

That makes no sense.

The road passing through J&K can't be the reason. .. The road has always existed since the 1950s/60s .

Why is india protesting something that has always existed?

Always existed?

Just because we were being ruled by some dynastic (and very likely inbred) nincompoops that didn't have the aptitude (very likely caused by the rabid inbreeding) to protest and stop construction in a disputed territory during that time, doesn't make your road legitimate!

@ Topic, there is absolutely no need for India to join this ponzi scheme called CPEC that only seeks to legitimize the illegal occupation of a territory that should belong to India in the first place.

Even if you ignore the disputed nature of the territory that CPEC runs through, there is nothing that India gains by joining. India has far longer land border with China directly and indirectly through other friendly countries. Neither can CPEC be used by India to connect with Afghanistan and beyond, considering that Pakistan already disallowed India the direct transit route to Afghanistan.

I agree. However I would like to add that the fears of those who have voiced certain concerns over CPEC are not completely unfounded. Would like to add more on this but I have my hands full with other things right now which is why I haven't been active lately.

I'm not arguing for India to join CPEC... I wouldn't want that. As decendents of the Indus Civilization and other great central western nations.... We are above that.

However, if it took you over 60years to voice your concern about a road you kind of have missed the opportunity to protest. The natives of that land have spoken people from the SOUTH have no relevance

You are talking as if India has given up it's claim on that territory!

I'm not arguing for India to join CPEC...

That is what is the whole thread is all about! Stick to the topic, then!

I am arguing along the same lines you...India should not join.

However, Russia should join CPEC irrespective of India's objection.

Pakistan should offer a lease to Russia for 100 years of rights to the Gwadar Port.

. .
For the Russian FM to meet Chinese and Indian FMs in India and then to give such a statement is actually VERY SIGNIFICANT. And for the Indian FM to use the word "Productive" means something is in the air. One way or the other, India will become part of OBOR, whether some here may not like this change.
If that was the case you would have not heard these statements. It would have been a generic diplomatic silence. Russia is too smart to derail a potential deal by blowing its horn.

.
Get in line!! poor Chinese are now begging to Russia to ask India to Join :lol:
What happened to India not worth statement :omghaha::omghaha:

Lol.... Russia urges India way before than India ever rejected it officially:omghaha::omghaha::omghaha:
Now look at the pakistani fan boy here
LOL

.
I understand that this is not going to be popular. But the wheels of change are so huge and the economic benefits are so large that India just won't be able to resist. There is a "Lucrative Offer" on the table for india by China and Russia. And that is why this meeting took place. Now it is upto india to take up with offer, and I believe that India will take up this offer.
never gonna happen not now not in future india will never be part of China's OBOR or pakistan CEPC weather you guys like it or not ... THANKS BUT NO THANKS
