Russian authorities approved deliveries of Mi-35 transport and attack helicopters to Pakistan, Lenta.ru reports with reference to Jane’s and a statement made by the Russian ambassador in Islamabad, Alexey Dedov.

Dedov did not specify the number of helicopters to be delivered. The official representative of Pakistani government told Jane’s that this refers to a contract for delivery of 20 vehicles of the type.

According to the source, Russia “decided to ignore the pressure applied by India” in terms of contracts for delivery of military products to Pakistan. Jane’s noted that earlier Islamabad had to abandon some military contracts with Russia.

According to analysts, Pakistan chose Mi-35 helicopters, because they are satisfied with Russian vehicles, including Mi-17 multi-role helicopters. According to Flightglobal MiliCAS, Pakistan operates 52 Mi-17s (the helicopters are operated by the country’s air forces and army).

Mi-35 helicopters are operated by Russia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Indonesia and other countries. Depending on the version Mi-35 may carry up to 8 passengers or 2,4 tons of cargo; the vehicle’s crew comprises two pilots. Maximum speed of Mi-35 is 340 km/h, range – 450 km. It is fitted with 30 mm (or 23 mm) cannon, missiles and bombs.

Russia and Pakistan signed an ambitious agreement to expand defence and military ties on 20 November, setting in motion a new era of co-operation between the two former Cold War foes.

The agreement followed the recent confirmation by Pakistani officials to IHS Jane's that the two countries had agreed on the sale of up to 20 Mil Mi-35 attack helicopters to Islamabad. If concluded the helicopter deal would be the biggest military sale by Russia to Pakistan.

A military diplomatic source in Moscow told IHS Jane's that Pakistan is also interested in buying a batch of Mi-28NE 'Havoc' attack helicopters and that a Russian delegation is preparing to present data on the Mi-28NE as well as the Pantsir-S1 (SA-22), Tor-M2KM (SA-15), and Buk-M2 (SA-17) surface-to-air missile systems to Pakistani officials at the forthcoming International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2014 in Karachi.

According to this news Russia has signed a deal for supply of MI-35 Helicopters and discussion for supply of MI-28 are on and defense industry guys are hopeful that Russia will agree to supply these Helicopters too.

Now that's what I am talking about, MI28 that there is the real deal, I hope it is finalized soon & the deal is inked.

These are the hardware PD needs & hopefully the deal is inked.

Pakistan Air defence is very weak & if these deals are finalized it's going to boost Pakistan Defence.
