Putin made decision to revive production of Tu-160M strategic bomber — Air Force commander | Russia & India Report

Russia’s Air Force will purchase at least 50 Tu-160M strategic bombers, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Air Force, Gen.Viktor Bondarev said on Thursday.

"The supreme commander [president of Russia - TASS] and the Russian defense minister have taken a decision on reviving production of the Tu-160M aircraft [NATO reporting name: Blackjack]," he stressed.

The industry "has confirmed its possibilities" on restarting the production of these bombers, he said.

"The production of the aircraft will be restarted. To cover all the outlay of the production, at least 50 aircraft will be purchased in course of time," Bondarev said.

The decision on reviving the production of Tu-160 M will not hamper the creation of a new strategic bomber dubbed PAK DA (prospective aviation complex of long-range aviation).

The reproduction of this model will be carried out simultaneously with the development of the new one, Bondarev said.

"Of course, we have no right to do it otherwise," Viktor Bondarev said in reply to the query whether the revival of the Tu-160M production could interfere with the designing of a new generation strategic bomber, and whether work on both planes would proceed simultaneously.

Nah,
Most likely as an interim replacement for ageing Tu-95

Indian navy should too look towards acquiring 8 of them to replace TU-142 which are set for retirement in 2020, mainly because GOI cancelled a second MLU, which would have seen these aircrafts fly till 2030

.
This is the Russian technological answer against the US/Nato balistic missile shield.

TU-160M is the most advanced Soviet/Russian airdesign until now. Russia must produce and purchase it en masse to achieve new technologies and operational capabilities.

Maybe even Akronoplan and new version of Buran (automated) can have a huge comeback.

Russia has all the technological expertize and knowledge from soviet times to build on it.

This will bring the number of Tu 160s in RuAF to 66.

I have strong feeling that Pak Da will be based on Tu 160 and will not be a flying wing desgin.

But it is slow process. maybe a decade.

Unfortunatly those ukrops destroyed 11 TU160 in 90s for some USA loans and credits.

dirty european africans and gypsies in kiev.

i saw a detail windtunnel model of PAK DA.

Tu 160 is not for ASW.

Besides Russia will not export it and its cost must be very high (Aquisition and Operating)............

That model may remain just model.

Remember, Russia has funds problem.

It will make sense for them to base Pak Da on existing platform.........

I don´t think Russia will export this. Strategic weapon.

Russia has no funds problem.

Putin investing heavily in defence sector. Oil price will double and tripple in near future when middle east sinks in terror attacks.
