Russia says will sever ties with NATO if Ukraine joins Atlantic bloc: agency

actually Russia have backed off since Dec 1.

Infact they ceased attacking Donestk Airport on 3rd Dec

If Russia keep on the pressure we would see the new front extend all the way from Eastern Ukraine to Crimea but the fact that we didnt suggested that Russia have backed off
 Look at the pro western guys ,how they twist and played with the words. Ceasefire is more of a victory for pro Russian since its the Ukraine wanted to take back Donestk area back, right? Ukraine plays the attack and pro Russian plays defend. Or you try to twist your words again by saying putin Russian soldier is going to march to Kiev and mightly Ukraine managed to halt their assault?

And even Ukraine president once say never negotiate with rebel for ceasefire and now you goes back his words and has a truce?

Lool seems Putins Russia is getting more and more paranoid everyday. So what are these actions Russia will take if Ukraine joins NATO? Supply its eastern Ukrainian separatists with more arms?
@Viet , @NiceGuy, @AgentOrange and other Vietnamese/Chinese pro russian members maybe you can help me reason with Moscow. Lool
that is expected, and not good at all for anyone.

that is expected, and not good at all for anyone.

Lool not good for anyone? More Like not good for Russia only. Afterall, all other countries are going on after their business like nothing happened, I don't see China, India, Turkey, Japan, Indonesia, U.S or even Vietnam etc being affected by this at all. If anything they are benefiting from it. Lol its only Russia that's suffering this much from this. Check this out:

As I said , never go against an adversary way bigger/powerful than you. know your strength/limits, and know how to pick your battles and think in the long term. This should serve as a reminder to the other upcoming/aspiring powers to know how to play the game . :enjoy:

According to the updated Russia's military doctrine, NATO military buildup, the development and deployment of strategic missile defense systems, the implementation of the 'global strike' doctrine are among main external threats to the country's security.

MOSCOW, December 26 (Sputnik) — President Vladimir Putin has signed an updated version of Russia's military doctrine, which highlights expansion of NATO's military capabilities among main threats to national security, the Kremlin said in a statement on Friday.

"Despite a decreased likelihood of a large-scale war against Russia, some security threats continue to grow," the revised doctrine says.

According to the text of the revised doctrine, "NATO's military buildup" and the bloc's expansion toward the Russian borders are among the main external threats to Russia's security.
Other external threats include the development and deployment of strategic missile defense systems, the implementation of the 'global strike' doctrine, plans to place weapons in space as well as the deployment of high-precision conventional weapons systems.

The doctrine also identifies the main internal threats as being activities aimed at destabilizing the situation in the country, terrorist activities to harm the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Russia, as well as actions involving anti-Russian and anti-patriotic propaganda.

Russia's military doctrine remains purely defensive in nature, the document emphasizes.
Russia’s revised military doctrine for the first time ever named the protection of national interests in the Arctic among the main priorities for its armed forces in times of peace.

The updated section about main objectives for the armed forces and other defense bodies in peaceful time now includes “the protection of national interests of the Russian Federation in the Arctic.”

Discussions on protecting national interests in the Arctic have arisen in Russia as the region, which is believed to have vast untapped reserves of oil and gas, has been the focus of much attention in four other countries bordering the area: the United States, Canada, Norway, and Denmark.

Earlier in December, President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia was not planning to militarize the Arctic, but was taking the necessary measures to ensure its defense capability in the region.

In April, President Vladimir Putin said that Russia would build a unified network of military facilities in its Arctic territories to host troops, advanced warships and aircraft, as part of a plan to boost the defense of national interests and borders in the region.

The revised military doctrine replaces the previous 2010 version. Overall, the 2014 military doctrine is the fourth version, following doctrines released in 1993, 2000 and 2010 doctrines.
The recent actions taken by NATO following Crimea’s reunification with Russia in March, namely boosting its military presence in Poland and in the former Soviet Baltic republics of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, have aroused dissatisfaction in Russia.

In April, the alliance ceased all practical cooperation with Russia, limiting contact to ambassadorial and higher levels. And the country's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov repeatedly described NATO expansion as a mistake that undermines European stability.

As if Russia cooperates extensively with NATO at present! It's not going to happwn anyway. Georgia applied a decade ago and is no closer to getting in now than it was then.

TBILISI. Nov 24 (Interfax) - Practical fulfillment of international obligations at the domestic level will help Georgia join NATO, its Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, according to reports on Georgian television channels.

NATO and Georgia are currently implementing the deepest and most comprehensive cooperation package ever, and implementation of this package will lead to Georgia joining NATO, he said, responding to a question posed by Tedo Djaparidze, the chairman of the Georgian Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Relations.

The alliance and its allies will never recognize the independence of either Abkhazia or South Ossetia, he said.

These are part of Georgia within the internationally recognized borders, he said. NATO supports the territorial integrity of Georgia, he said.

NATO values Georgia's contribution in NATO operations, particularly in Afghanistan, Stoltenberg said.

At the Wales Summit in September, NATO leaders endorse the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package to help Georgia in its efforts toward reaching NATO membership. Georgia is considered to be one of the five biggest contributors to NATO's operations and other objectives and is therefore eligible for enhanced opportunities for dialogue and cooperation with the Alliance. Georgia is invited to participate in the Interoperability Platform, under the Partnership Interoperability Initiative, as well as the Defence and Related Security Capacity-Building Initiative, launched during the summit.

Lool what's the meaning of pro western guys? Do you remember that last time Russia had the power of the U.S during its own empire, it invaded/captured large parts of China from Manchuria to Siberia to Japanese islands which it still holds today? How do you think Russia got to its current size of being the worlds largest country by landmass? You think its by them being humble. Peaceful? Lool

Do you remember they even threatened to nuke you people during your border skirmishes? It was the U.S who had to desist Moscow from even thinking of doing that. Lol

So keep cheering for them as if they were your baby/patron.Lool they are farrrrrr from being saints. Just because they are weak today that they act humble (yet they still invade Georgia, seize Crimea from Ukraine and want eastern Ukraine), imagine they were as powerful as we in the west/U.S , do you think you will still be saying the same thing? Lool so think harder bro. And don't be too pro Moscow more than even us Europeans. After all, we know Russia more than any of you Asians. They are far from being the good guys you think. Lol

 Thanks for your reminder. But we do know who is the one who gives Diaoyutai to Japan. We still know who is the one who threaten drop nuclear bomb during korean war. We still do know who is the one who come and force import opium to another country to weaken her before stealing ones country national treasure, colonise some part of the land.

We definitely know who is the one shall help and who shall be the one to resist. :D

Russians are our brothers and sisters. We Chinese do not claim any land of Russia. Your divide and conquer strategy will never work. :p:

China already has more territory than the US, 9.5 million compared to 9.3 million. We are already a superpower. Britain is small and is not a superpower  You lost the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Ireland, all independent sovereign states now.

Help you reason with Moscow? I'm gonna do the same thing you'll be doing if the SHTF in Continental Europe...which is this: :pop:

Wont make any difference then?

Russia will remain isolated, China will "act" like a friend but aside from gas contracts which arent a huge amount annually especially compared to trade with the US/EU they wont change any stance towards NATO members. Russians are mostly white Europeans, you wont find many friends in the homogeneous societies many miles east of your main areas of habitation.

The SCO should have a new branch that counters NATO. Its current military co-operations isn't anywhere near to that of NATO. The US and EU fears about the rise of Russia (for the 2nd time) and that of China and if Russia falls, China will be next.

Kahlid, do you actually research stuff before throwing acronyms of different organizations out on forums?

In the world of international relations, "acting" like a friend is often tantamount to being a friend. Not only has work on that Chinese/Russian gas pipeline begun, China has also moved to offer "financial assistance" to Russia including help with shoring up the Ruble. How much? Who knows. Even if it's symbolic help, that's often enough to give Russian currency a boost.

Either way, though Russia and China are still far from allies, fact is that China is doing more to help Russia at the moment than any other country. And the average Russian appreciates help from his/her non-white neighbors more (if that means more food on their plate) than some hypothetical racial solidarity with European whites that are only too happy to watch Russian white people starve. Russians are nothing if not practical. As are Chinese people. Just my two cents.
