Russia says wants Syria elections, ready to help Free Syrian Army

No never heard of that charlie thing, not an old member of the forum either.

I just don't like it when some from Singapore and another one from India says sunni muslims are rapists spreading fake propaganda and making us look bad on a global forum such as this one.

I'm from Turkey and the public here attacks racists during trials, we really hate rapists.

ISIS and Taliban are CIA supported crap meant to look us look bad, you actually think they are normal sunni muslims?

Religion has nothing to do with it, I'm a sunni and I give charity to christians in need.

That's as far from rapist as you can get.
Iook, I was talking about the militant ones, and it's for everyone to see what these groups are doing in the middle east and indeed in other conflicts all around the world.

isis, FSAl qaeda, taliban, boko haram, lashkar, jaish e mohammed.. the list in endless, the evidence is empirical.

You see what you want to see, but in this world nothing is what it seems.

If it had anything to do with sunni muslims you'd have such terrorists in Turkey as well.

you guys still carry the secular legacy of Ataturk, though recent news bits seem to suggest Islamism is on the rise there, this support for the Syrian rebels might backfire.. there was that tragic blast couple weeks ago ?

anyway, I'm no expert on Turkey, and I hope there won't be any spillover into there from across the border.

please stop it with the conspiracy theories already, this is just like our Pakistani friends who blame India for their problems with their Taliban :disagree:

Great move; an election should unite the country.

The conflict in Syria started because of the wealth distribution within the country and even the regional and international involvement.

Syrian Baath party support to the Iraqi Baath party was objected by the moderate Syrian Baath members.

Make no mistake. Alliance has all the time in the world. Insurgents have no MANPADS and cannot shoot down a single Russian aircraft.

FSA are having Manpads and even ISIS.

Russians will not stay for longer time in Syria and they are working for exit .

U.S., Saudi Arabia to bolster support for moderate Syrian opposition| Reuters

The United States and Saudi Arabia agreed to increase support to Syria's moderate opposition while seeking a political resolution of the four-year conflict, the U.S. State Department said after Secretary of State John Kerry met King Salman on Saturday.

Kerry was in Riyadh for meetings with the Saudi monarch, crown prince, deputy crown prince and foreign minister - the last stop in a trip that also included Vienna, where he met counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Russia.

"They pledged to continue and intensify support to the moderate Syrian opposition while the political track is being pursued," the State Department statement said after Kerry's meetings in Saudi Arabia. It did not spell out what kind of support would be offered.

Rebels have appealed for more military support from foreign backers, including Saudi Arabia, to confront major Syrian army offensives. Those offensives are backed by Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian fighters and Russian air strikes.

The United States and Saudi Arabia, together with other states opposed to Assad, already provides some military support to Syrian rebels. That includes training by the Central Intelligence Agency and anti-tank missiles.

Kerry said in Vienna on Friday he expected new talks on Syria to begin as soon as next week. So far, all diplomatic efforts to end the conflict have foundered over the demand by the United States and its allies that Assad leave power, which he refuses to consider.

Saudi Arabia, a strident opponent of Assad, has said he must be removed from power to eliminate the militant Islamic State. Riyadh has also criticized Russia's bombing campaign in Syria.

Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said after the Vienna meeting that he and his fellow participants had not reached consensus on Assad's political future.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the Kremlin wanted Syria to prepare for parliamentary and presidential elections.

Washington has criticized Moscow, which has been bombing Islamist militants in Syria since Sept. 30, for focusing most of its firepower on groups supported by the West and its allies rather than Islamic State.

Until now, the Kremlin has said it is impossible to distinguish between terrorists. In comments that suggested a shift its position, Lavrov said Russia would be ready to help Western-backed Free Syrian Army rebels, if it knew where they were.

Rebel groups fighting under the banner of the Free Syrian Army have been supplied with weapons through Jordan and Turkey. But they complain the support falls far short of their needs.

"We do not understand anything from Russia"

And that's exactly what we want. We will bring confusion, desperation and death upon the terrorists.

This is just a PR move.

Everyone in the world knows that with big Sunni around, most democracy will bring tyranny against minorities because Sunni want to kill and rape every single of them.

Tyranny and persecution against minorities is in countries like india, india is the rape capital of the world, so go fart somewhere else.

Syria's Assad says ready to hold presidential election with people's blessing - The Hindu

Another lawmaker in the Russian delegation, told TASS news agency that Mr. Assad had said the effectiveness of Russia's military operation in Syria had exceeded expectations.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told Russian lawmakers in Damascus on Sunday that he was ready to take part in presidential elections if the Syrian people support the idea, RIA news agency reported, citing a lawmaker at the meeting.

Interfax news agency cited the same lawmaker as saying Mr. Assad had also expressed a willingness to discuss amendments to Syria's constitution and hold parliamentary elections.

Moscow is a key foreign ally for Mr. Assad, and Russia's Foreign Minister said in comments aired on Russian TV on Saturday that the Kremlin wanted Syria to prepare for parliamentary and presidential elections.

RIA said Mr. Assad held the meeting with Russian lawmakers at his residence in Damascus on Sunday morning. State-run Syrian media reported that Mr. Assad was meeting a Russian delegation but made no mention of what he had told them.

"Assad said that if the Syrian people consider it necessary, he would not be against taking part in presidential elections," RIA quoted lawmaker Alexander Yushchenko as saying.

Dmitry Sablin, another lawmaker in the Russian delegation, told TASS news agency that Mr. Assad had said the effectiveness of Russia's military operation in Syria had exceeded expectations.

No. This mission is supposed to be 3-4 months long and can be extended according to strategic requirements.

Russia wants to keep the Tartus port and even talks were held between Syrian opposition and Russian Federation.

the Russian government has provided the Assad government financial support, intelligence information, weapons and spare parts for its Russian-made military equipment, but had not sent troops to Syria.

The White House said it was closely monitoring reports of Russian military operations in Syria after images of Russian-built warplanes and reconnaissance drones appeared on social media accounts belonging to Syrian opposition fighters. The pictures purportedly showed the aircraft operating near Idlib province in northwestern Syria.

Russia's sole military installation outside the borders of the former Soviet Union is a Cold War-era naval base in the Syrian city of Tartus. The base is some 35 miles south of Bassel al Assad International Airport, where the new Russian staging area is apparently being built. With the buildup, the Russians could be looking to increase their ability to resupply Assad's forces and bolster his tenuous hold on power. Assad's army has lost large numbers of soldiers and weapons amid rebel advances.
