Russia has offered to cooperate with Turkey in developing its TF-X fifth-generation fighter jet besides advancing talks on the delivery of a second regiment set of S-400 air defence system (DS).

In relation to the TF-X, the Russian offer includes the fighter’s engines, avionics, onboard systems, airframe and pilot life support systems, Head of Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugayev said in an interview with the Turkish Ekoturk TV channel on Tuesday.

"We have something to offer in the field of aircraft engines — and such issues were discussed — onboard guidance and control systems, the aircraft’s ergonomics and airframe, the pilots’ life support and so on," he said.

Turkey has been struggling to get its TF-X project off the ground as does not have technology related to engine, avionics, and weapons systems among others. Breaking with the United States on the F-35 project, where it was a manufacturing partner, has further complicated matters in terms of access of fifth-generation fighter jet technology.

Russia and Turkey have advanced talks on the delivery of the second regiment set of S-400 ADS, Shugayev said adding, "the dialogue on the delivery of the second regiment set of S-400 systems is at quite an advanced stage and we are waiting for the Turkish side’s final decision."

A second regiment set will double the number of missiles and launchers which Turkey has purchased for an estimated $2.5 Billion. Turkey had offered to buy the Patriot ADS to make peace with the US. however, the Trump administration has been cold to the offer and has made canceling the Russian S-400 deal a pre-condition for further defence cooperation.

Earlier reports said Turkey has not "switched on" the S-400 ADS it received from Russia owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, reports emanating from the US said Turkey was trying to wait out from further antatonizing Washington till a final decision was taken on supplying two Su-35 jets already built for Ankara.

Regarding the TF-X project, Turkey had entered into an agreement with Rolls Royce to co-develop engines. It remains to be seen if that deal could go through in light of the current impasse with the US.

Turkey has been unable to sell its ATAK helicopter to Pakistan as the US has refused an export licence to the LHTEC-800 engine which is made by a joint venture between Rolls-Royce and Honeywell.

.
if this deal goes through , NATO will no longer be same , A new block will be emerging
if this happened , the only question is if china-turkey normalize relations with each other. and that will be a major threat to NATO

. . .
Turkey just got out of the F-35 lifetime contract with the US. Now you'd like us to think Turkey is going to go into a lifetime contract with Russia? You must be insane!

TFX all the way!

No harm if engine can be produced under licence which will allow crucial expertise regarding jet engines for Turkey. It is not easy to manufacture jet engines china only managed to accomplish it recently. Such defense deals will also allow some sort of political settlement in Syria which favor turkey.

.
I guess its only a matter of time before Turkey normalozes relations with China. This would effectively give Turkey freedom from west. Pakistan can help alot in that regard, but Turkey also need to show some flexibility.

when turkey can establish relationship with israel who are involved in much more human rights violations against Muslims as compared to china then it is not difficult for them to have good relationship with china but I think certain elements in turkey are working for cia and these are same people who are behind failed military takeover attempt few years ago,you will see many of them in this pdf

Oh, Indians... /:facepalm/

An article full of nonsense. I don't know where to start.

Exactly and I can only agree with you. It's an unbelievable stupid report, but that's quite common with that source.

I do not even want to explain again that these suggested/imposed things are how technically ridiculous. These issues were discussed several times, and showed that how is useless to argue again and again, why Turkey build its own-indipendent aerospace industry and other tecnicel subtopics like industrial infrastructure and standardization...

Because a few months later, a new title will be opened by someone and the same unnecessary conversations are performed again.

There is no problem in relations between Turkey and China. On the contrary relationships are at a very good level with this AKP government.

On the other hand in the dispute between Turkey and Israel is not an obstacle to economic relations. The areas of political conflict between the two countries should not be associated with this. Turkey has been one of the countries with the most support to the Palestinian people all over the world. even so, trying to create political leverage over Israel-Turkey dispute , is one of the biggest mistakes of the current government.(of both parties)

Before you start to comment on these issues, you need to get rid of MENA/Balkan's cold war rhetoric and the way of perceiving the postmodern world with traditional 70s policies.

Turkey already produces under license GE F110 engine, but at the end of the day license production means only limited production and no critical knowledge would ever be transferred, this goes for all countries.

Initial batches of the TFX will be utilizing GE F110 engines till TRMOTOR develops national engine to power TFX

This is the initial study of a Turkish Engine
