Russia offers India 3 additional Talwar class frigates

Change the weaponry in Kamorta-class increase weight 500T and make it frigate
there is P17A class Frigates Planned....There are 7 planned, 6-6.5K ton disp....these will carry Brahmos p2, and barak8, with other goodies under development, lockheed and Hyndai heavy have responded to RFI with Aegis, so these puppies will shame some destroyers.... IN will and should blur the line between destroyers and Frigates...

Shivalik's lessons spun the kamorta, I am sure P17A will spin an ever more potent follow on to P28's in the next decade...

Need some guarntee of Timing and Money............ No More Time No more $$$$$$$$..................."With all media coverage, so the clear message of Goodwill of Russia is Maintained."

No doubt the P-17A is what the IN really wants and for good reason- they are going to be devastatingly potent. I love the IN's seemingly official policy of underplaying their assets' capabilities- 6,000 ton "frigates"? 4,000 ton "Corvettes"? 2,300 ton OPVs?

The P-17As will take some time to be in service however as the Indian shipyards are currently maxed out in capacity trying to meet current IN orders. So more than likely this is the motivation for outsourcing the construction of 3 more frigates to the Yanter shipyard in Russia (that Indian money has already paid for a massive upgrade of their facilities) as a stop gap measure. I hope these follow on Talwars will be larger with improved sensors (particularly the radar- would be great if the MF-STAR could be put on them to increase commonality with the IN's future fleet, but I'm not sure how much redesign work would have to go on to make this possible).

9 Talwars+ 3 P-17s+7 P-17As is quite some force all by themselves.

One thing to ponder though is that the Yantar shipyard is now pretty competent at churning out these Talwar/Project 11356 frigates in 3 years (and are currently producing one a year for the RuN's Black Sea Fleet from a total order of 6) so the delays and cost overruns we saw affecting both previous Talwar-batch orders shouldn't be encountered.
