Subtract Italy's debt, Italy has a tiny economy compared to Russia. Italy's unemployment rate is 13% compared to Russia's 5%. Besides, Italy has no high tech industry like Russia does. Russia can make a 5th generation combat plane. Italy cannot.

China produces $2 trillion worth of manufactured goods. United States produces $1.6 trillion worth of manufactured goods.

Russia has everything it needs except a massive manufacturing industry that makes consumer goods and industrial goods.

When Russia develops a manufacturing base, then Russia won't need anybody.

They already have energy resources, raw material resources, agriculture resources, water resources, military technology, space technology, large consumer market, very low debt to GDP, run budget and current account surpluses, very advanced civilian technology in many areas.

Russia needs to grow its population more and develop a manufacturing industry that produces high tech consumer goods and industrial goods.
They need to develop their services sector especially the financial services.

Russia has everything a country needs to be very powerful.
