The new Russian Pantsyr-S1 (NATO designation SA-22 Greyhound) short-range air defense systems were spotted near Vyborg, city is located near the Russia’s border with Finland.

In Russian social media reported that twelve Pantsyr-S1 short-range air defense systems were spotted in the road near Vyborg.

The Pantsyr-S1 system is designed for air defense of small military and administrative-industrial objects and areas against aircrafts, helicopters, cruise missiles and high-precision weapons, guided air bombs and unmanned aerial vehicles as well as for reinforcement of AD groups during repulse of massive air strikes and ensuring of engagement of lightly-armored targets.

Air defense systems accepted to service with the Russian Air Force are based on KamAZ-65608×8 truck chassis. The Pantsyr-S1 combat vehicle can operate is a stand alone mode, without any external support. Up to 3 – 5 combat vehicles can be used in a battery, where one of the vehicles operates as a command post and sends target data to other vehicles. These combat vehicles can also operate in conjunction with a separate air defense command post and early warning radar.
